Coffinless burial?
    #6617095 -

For the last few years, I've been pondering being buried without a coffin so that the maggots and worms can use my body for what is meant to happen to dead things. Anyways, is this possible? Closest I found was some funeral parlour that buries you in a plain piece of shit unfurnished coffin (which is really just a plywood box of some sort). It just seems stupid to put me in a flash box which I'm hardly likely to appreciate because I'll be dead.
What aroused my interest again was watching Six Feet Under Season 4, where one of the character's wife dies. She wanted to be buried in a forest somewhere with no coffin, just her and the dirt.

Hmmm, just make sure its deep so animals dont get into your carcass and spread you're body parts around and then some little kid finds you're partially eaten severed hand.

I suggest using rocks like the native americans, the Zoroastrians like to do ceremonial cremations, and a lot of buddhists and animists prefer leaving the deceased on platforms so the vultures carry the departeds spirit to heaven.

For one thousand dollars (U.S., paid in advance)I will come pick up your dead ass on the date of expiration (or sometime in the following weeks) and throw you in a shallow grave at the location of your choice.

All contractual agreements shall become null and void in the event that you should soil yourself.

No guarantees or refunds.

Of course it'd have to be deep enough, but I have no problems with animals eating my carcass (hey, I'll be dead, it may as well feed a hungry animal).
Trouble is finding people who are willing to bury an uncovered corpse which may not have died in the most pleasant way.

True, who wants to be buried anyhow its the same old song and dance. For 2,000 dollars ill take your dead body to this mountain where i gurantee no one will find it, and leave you're carcass to be carried away by coyotes.

I've always wanted to be buried without a coffin. In fact I would like to be buried without a coffin and placed below an oak seedling. I would also like a garden around the oak. With everything from fruits and veggies. To legal psychoactives. And because it's a burial site, no one could ever disturb the garden or the oak.

That piece of land would be there forever. Some people have done similar things just to preserve special lands for future generations. I kid you not.

I dealt with this when a family member passed recently. It really all depends on the regulations imposed by the owner of the burial land. Our family member wanted just a pine box, but the cemetary according to regulation had to put in a concrete form (vault) for the pine box to sit, supposedly to cut down on "contamination". The best compromise we got on that was they agreed to break the vault in several spots once it was in place in order to speed up decomposition.
Also there is the issue of embalming fluids..

hahahaha

Cremation is much more economically friendly, and don't you worry about maggots, they have plenty out there to feast on. Your body could potentially be a contaminant to local natural resources, so I would highly recommend Cremation.

I dunno about cremation. Ideally I prefered it to cemetary burial (as there were only 2 options I knew about), but cremation spews a bit of pollution to get the job done.
Dead people don't infect nature! Don't be silly. It's the natural cycle of life and dead things are it's compost. Maggots break down the corpse and turns it into nutrients. It's only when you pump bodies full of embalming fluid that you'll run the risk of contaminating the earth around it.
I'm OK with maggots eating my dead ass  There's not that much to go around anyway.

Just get your friends to do it when you die.

Edward Abbey's friends buried him somewhere in the desert when he died.
