Why use coffins?
    #20342356 -

Seriously, what's the point of buying a coffin, especially really expensive ones? It's not like your body will be better protected from eventual decay, and it's not even like people will be able to admire the coffin while it's in the ground. Plus, they're pricey, and grave plots do eventually expire so that other people can be put into them.

But beyond that, are we so possessive of our bodies that we won't let nature have them even when we no longer need them? Are coffins a form of narcissism? Do we use them to "protect" our dead loved ones? Or is this all the result of an ancient tradition?

I think we should do away with coffins and just let the earth swallow us up. When I die, I'm being put in the ground with the seed of a tree above me. The tree will grow, use my body for nourishment, and I will pass on into nature.
What would you wish to be done with your body?
You may choose only one

And it's because people are stupid and think that a coffin is like that of a coffee table. "It describes me as a person".

For me... my wishes are an open pyre cremation with silver pieces over my eyes so I'll have the coin to pay the boatman Keron to ferry me across the River Styx to the gates of hell. The mortal remains, the ashes, should be scattered into a strong western wind.

At the very most I just want to be placed in a wooden box so that'll actually rot away along with my body. Preferably I'd like to rot away in the middle of a forest by my own means.

Because dressing a body up nicely with makeup and suits and putting them in a fancy coffin seems nicer than tossing a dead body into a hole in the ground.

Seems like a moot point if it'll decay anyway. Funerals are expensive enough as is. Besides, who said anything about tossing?

You'll turn off your date though.

For me, aye, cremation too. Of the conventional options thats the one that appeals most to me.

I chose other because I want to be mummified like an Egyptian Pharaoh. When archeologists thousands of years in the future are trying to understand our primitive ways of this time by digging up our ancient remains they will come across my sarcophagus and discover a total mind fuck that will rewrite our long forgotten history... I haven't thought to far into this but it could work if the right things happen in the next thousand years. Maybe I was a God of some advanced utopian civilization who got their technology from ancient aliens.

On a further note I would have to be buried in a regular cemetery. I need them to think that all the people around me are my servants.

You cannot legislate the poor into prosperity by legislating the wealthy out of prosperity. What one person receives without working for another person must work for without receiving. The government cannot give to anybody anything that the government does not first take from somebody else. When half of the people get the idea that they do not have to work because the other half is going to take care of them and when the other half gets the idea that it does no good to work because somebody else is going to get what they work for that my dear friend is the beginning of the end of any nation. You cannot multiply wealth by dividing it. ~ Adrian Rogers

I just want to be placed in the forest,
leaning against a tree,
for all the little critters,
to eat me.

I chose Cremation for the reason I want to be scattered in the Ocean and with 2 good flushes of the toilet I save my loved ones gas money and time. And by being flushed eventually I'll end up there. No Muss No Fuss! :thatsayes:
