Tyvek and Oyster Shells (substitutes?)
    #6599486 - 02/22/07 08:48 PM (17 years, 1 month ago)

So I went to go buy tyvek today and the smallest amount I could find was a 3'x100' roll for 50 bucks. I figure in the next 6 months I may consume 5 square feet. No need for 300.. is there a tyvek substitute or something that would come in a smaller quantity? Also I went to my pet store this evening and asked for oyster shells. Lady looked at me wierd and said they didnt have any. Arent oyster shells for bird cages? Anyway I went to the fish section and found some Ph buffer it said if you added a tablespoon to 10-20 gallons of freshwater is would buffer it to 7.0 for 2-4 weeks. Could I use that in my casing mix? Otherwise were could I get oyster shells are calcium carbonate.. thanks guys!

Tyvek is free at the post office. Look for their manilla envelope-sized white envelopes. If you read all the print on it somewhere it'll mention that it is tyvek.
