My DXM Addiction.
    #6593944 -

I was turned onto DXM more than 5 years ago. Then it was a fun magical drug. Now, I am facing an addiction.

When I first started using DXM, it was a really great, magical, philosophical feeling high. After repeated use, that magic has gone, and all I am left with now is a love hate relationship with the drug.

I really can't say that I even like it any longer. I can predict the outcome of any use. Generally, it goes like this.

1. I begin to think about use, or previous times of being under the influence, and the thought of doing DXM that evening creeps into my mind.
2. I begin to struggle with myself internally about stopping on the way home and buying a DXM containing preperation.
3. After I purchase, I generally consume the product in the parking lot, or on the way home.
4. The come up brings a bit of anxiety, and then I am left with nothing but a dizzy feeling, and a bit of nausea.
5. I am restless the night that I use DXM, then Lethargic the next day.

Though I can see this happening before use, I still struggle with it. Even thought there effects are almost nil, I always end up dosing anyway. I have smoked pot in the past for years on end, and quit no problem. I have also given up nicotine. DXM is by far, the hardest struggle with addiction I have faced.
Does anyone have any theories on why I choose to continue to do something I do not like?

addiction + easy escape or change in perception, being addicted to that?

I know exactly what you are saying. A little more than 2 years ago I was a member of the "Dextroverse" forum. I pretty much lived for DXM for like 2 years of my life. At my worst, I blew $250 at once on products. I pretty much never came down for the entire christmas break period. Like falling asleep tripping and waking up worse, day after day. Not a good place for me. I realise now that although I got a lot out of these experiences, it was the numbness that I kept coming back to.

Good Luck
Its not an easy habbit to break.
Just replace the times when you would be doing DXM with something else where being under the influence would not be acceptable
(Like a relationship. Love saved me from this one)

Sounds like you've made a routine out of it so changing your routine might help alot..

Find other different things to do...

I'm don't know alot about DXMs addictive potential though,, weed is my vice.

I do believe it to be escapism. Though the effects are not great, they are numbing to an extent. However, I have no idea what I am making myself numb for.

some people make themselves numb, just TO feel numb. not everyone has a reason for their actions sometimes.

I have the same thing with a ketamine addiction right now. If you want some comfort in your actions, you can relate by reading my thread a page or two down from this one, titled ketamine addiction.

Very similar, im gaining control by setting myself up with self esteem boosting hobbies including biking, the gym and taking some classes and fulfilling plans in the near future. You might give it a try.

Wow. I feel for ya PDU. Ummm... Instead of buying dxm this evening, I bought loose black tea. A gourmet tea that cost 50 dollas a pound. But I only bought like enough to make a pot of tea....

Nice, how did that turn out? I'm really starting to get into tea now too.

Very well. I have been getting into teas lately myself. I find that it is similar to wines. There are very basic well known brands and flavors, then some more exotic.

Caffinated tea gives me a better feeling than coffee. Seems to be more clarity involved. However, the ritual of things enjoyable sometimes seems more enjoyable than the end result itself. With tea it is similar. Kind of like preparing bud, rolling a joint, etc.

It is a good thing.
