Help with port choices, using azureus

sorry in advance i am pretty new to using torrents and i don't think i have a complete understanding of it.

what i don't understand, i am getting decent d/l rates but a lot of times unless there are tons of people d/ling a torrent i hardly u/l.

this ussually doesn't matter, i will let a movie or some thing roll and make sure i am giving back but i recently joined oink and am finding it hard to u/l anything because most torrents are really well seeded and hardly anyone d/ls for long.

@ the moment i am using port 65100... i have the firewall on but have azureus on the exception list as well as the port... but still getting firewalled/nat error bs. so i am confused.

any help would be appreciated.

btw i have time warner as an isp right now.

Just leave the torrent running. It could take weeks or months for you to meet your ratio. It's not unusual.

is it common for there to be say, in the most recent torrent 20 people d/ling but i am not connected to any of them.

Aye, its even worse for me tho, im on satellight and i have a bandwidth limit. I cant leave it running all the time, so i do what i can. Needless to say, i dont DL all that much now, i hardly even use youtube.

Its shitty, but its all i can get out here, unless i opt for a T1-T3 line, which would be over $1000 install, and $300 a month, vs. ~$300 install, and $80 per month.

i hate when people suggest new software when I ask a question, but I can't help but suggest uTorrent.

I used to use Azureus, but I'm convinced it fucked my old router up, and it was always causing connection problems with the internet.

what kind of router are you using?

I just learned about nat settings the other day, and it opened up a new world of understanding ip's and how the DHCP gives them out to computers....

you need to first make your computer a static ip. (within your default gateway)

flip your rounter over and log in to the ip add provided.
example: netgear's default gateway 192.168.1.1

each time you turn on a pc on your network.. it will give it a different #  (192.168.1.2)  etc....

when making your pc static think that you'll prolly never have over 50 pc's on your network, so you can clearly make your computer 192.168.1.50

once that is done port forward the
TCP 65100
UDP 65100

and your nat will turn green.... :thumbup:

i wasn't able to host a match in Gears or War - xbox 360
untill i make my xbox a static ip.

hope this helps... and use the link above. I think that's where i learned it from. (lots of reading)
