Can't get torrent links to work
    #3756920 - 02/09/05 06:06 PM (13 years, 4 months ago)

I've downloaded bittorrent, but whenever I click on a torrent link, I get a 404 message. How do I check to see what the problem is?

This isn't a one-time thing. This is every torrent link I've ever clicked. I haven't gotten a single one to work yet.

um, do you have a bit torrent client installed? there should be no web page opening...its a file, not a web page so you shouldn't have a web page opening. that file needs to be opened by your client.

go to www.bittornado.com and install the client there. you probably also have to port forward so go to the forum and you will find the info you need.

I've never used torrent, but on overnet/edonkey, you have to check a box if you want IE to catch links and send it to the client. Also is BT running?

None of what people have posted should give you a 404. Make sure you don't have any spyware installed or any internet filtering software like Norton Internet Security.

Try pinging that site from a command prompt.

Start -> Run -> type "cmd"
from command prompte type "ping www.legaltorrents.com"
post the results from that.

yeah, something is screwy.
right-click a .torrent file and "save target as"

open that file with your bt client.

"'www.legaltorrents.com' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

Does this mean it's not installed? I went through the whole downloading and installation process.

Also some isp's have port blocking for the default port settings, you could try changing the port setting in the bit torrent client that your using.

It's possible that my firewall is blocking it. I know it blocks me from using filesharing programs.

Yeah but that really shouldn't block http traffic. I mean you can browse the web so why would that one web site be blocked.

"'www.legaltorrents.com' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file."

I don't think you typed the command properly. Type "ping www.legaltorrents.com" without the quotes. And while you're at it if that doesn't work try "ping 69.93.81.74" without the quotes.
