They already do, I can't buy health insurance because I have diabetes for example.

Here's an idea: everyone who ever tested positive for any illegal drug has to pay double for health insurance for the rest of their lives, because of the great harm caused by drugs to society.

:mypleasure:

I can't believe how people here want to tax cheap food while there are food stamps and poverty with malnutrition out there.

Make healthy food CHEAPER, but don't tax the cheap foods there are.

Create a state-sponsored coupon system that gives every adult the right to get three pounds of fruit a week for free. People will stasrt eating more fruit, thus less other stuff. It will as a side effect bring more jobs and money in your agricultural communities.

You guys have a budget of 2.9 trillion dollars. That is the value of all the gold that was ever dug up in the history of humanity, spent by your government each year. Surely with that kind of money you guys can reward good choices rather than punish poor choices with even more taxes.

Why does everyone think fast food is cheaper than healthy food?

Calorie for calorie it very often is. I pay dearly for my fruit and veggies, and that quadruples if I were to buy "organic" fruits & vegs.

Not sure if that really means anything...  I don't feel like doing any math right now after that danger will robinson thread.

You need 2000-4000 kcal a day depending on how big you are and how hard you have to work for a living.

To meet those calories you have to buy the food too match, and good food typically has (far) less calories per pound as fast food does.

One candybar = a pound of fruit or a kilo of veggies on average. It takes a whole melon to get the same calories.

I understand the fundamentals, Wiccan... I just meant that people who eat fast food for many of their meals spend more on food than those of us who buy groceries to make our meals. I have friends that spend $25 a day on fast food.

Fast food goes deeper than that.

White bread and white rice are fast food. Starched-up and sugared stuff is fast food. There are few unprocessed foods that haven't been adulterated.

I've haven't been around here long, but I've noticed a trend of anti-fat people threads.

Is this normal or just bad timing? What's with the preoccupation?

Just wondering..

Obese people are unsightly. They usually smell bad, too. And have to use those scooters for disabled people to get their fat asses around Walmart.

Fat people cause a strain on the health system that affects the general public. Obesity is becoming an epidemic, especially with kids which is only going to strain our nation even more...

Plus the more fat people we have the more foreigners will make fun of us... It reinforces the stereotype that we are lazy and over-consume.

Yea, basically its not just fast foods which cause the obesity harm, it has alot to do with all the processed foods we have in our groceries, and I believe that soda is the leading health disaster at the moment due to its large amounts of sugar. Also, someone made a thread about it the effects of sodas not too long ago in the physical and mental-well being forum, very interesting although a little over the top.

I hate how the government never ceases to stop protecting us from ourselves. Government is constantly interrupting the normal rhythms of society. I wish the federal government would quit babysitting the country and that it would let private liberty reclaim its throne.
