Necessary to pastuerize the casing?

My friend is going to use Miracle Grow Moisture Control potting soil as a casing, which I've read is great. I think I remember RR saying that it isn't necessary to pastuerize it.

The poo/grain mix is about 90% colonized with a few small spots on the top and side that aren't completely colonized. Would it be ok to go ahead and case with unpastuerized mgmc?

Miracle gro is full of little critters. I used it in my mushroom room to pot some salvia, and in no time the soil, then the plants were crawling with tiny insects.

Definitely, pasteurize it.

Just hydrate some,
Toss it in a plastic bag, use a rubber band to semi-seal it.
Not so tight stream cannot escape.
Then, nuke the bag several times.
About 3 minutes per & flip bag between increments.
Then seal bag & cool overnight.
Should be good to go.

Get it "field consistency" like poo?  Wet but not dripping?  Sounds good guys, thanks.

And yeah, my salvia has little bugs crawling all in the soil :smile:  Fortunately they aren't mean to my salvia plants.

My friend bought them on ebay and they weren't doing so well for him, one of the three died.  He let me take care of them and I have it up to 4 plants now.  I'm going to let them grow out a bit before making more cuttings, but they're doing fine :smile:
