How common is it to have a teacher who doesn't review OR give study guides for tests?

What kinda bullshit is this?

I have 100 pages of power point slides I'll have to memorize since I don't know what I really need to know.

I've never had a teacher do this before. Maybe it's more common than I thought? :shrug:

Extremely common. Now is the time to learn the skill of seeing what the main points and concepts are.

Also, if it bothers you, talk to the teacher about what you need to know for the test.

Usually only intro classes will provide study guides/reviews.

This is for a General Biology class.

Everyone is surprised when I tell them that I despise Biology. It is one of the most boring subjects I'll ever have to put myself through. Now, put me in an industrial networking class and I'll be a happy camper.

I agree. Once you're past your sophomore year and all the bullshit requirement classes, don't expect review sessions unless you have resciation.

It's all about learning how to study properly. Key points, concepts, connections, and definitions tend to be the most important in my major (Pre-med bio/neuroscience). I'd imagine it's the same for most majors, though.

If you're a bio major the most imporant thing you can rememeber: learn how form fits function. Evolution is key too.

My calc class did review.
That's it.
Your review is the class. Go to recitation. Take advantage of office hours. Find the free tutors/study groups.

happens all the time. my international economics 450 class was the first one i ever had without a review/or any mention of the test and i was pissed too... but i aced it.

It's pretty common.

Your best tool is going to be your own notes as well as your assignments (keep them after they're graded... they're a good study tool for certain subjects, although they can be fairly useless depending on the instructor and the subject)

I highly doubt every piece of info on these slides is going to be on a 50-75 question test. :rolleyes:

I wanted to filter out all the trivial information and retain the important things but I guess I'll have to keep it all. I suppose I'll have to get used to it.

It's really not that hard to memorize things and regurgitate it for a test but it sure is time consuming.

My future involves programming and engineering, not being a nurse or a doctor. :tongue:

IMO, knowing specific functions of cell organelles and the makeup of DNA, etc. is unimportant. Knowing the general idea of things will suffice. However, I do have to know the specifics to make a good grade so it's not so trivial at the moment. :wink:

I hate to LOL at this, but we had a part time Psych professor for PSY110 that made us buy a $250 book so we could read 500 pages of slides for the final.  Never told us what was on tests, gave broads better grades, etc.

He got fired, I got a C, it ended up kinda even I guess. I don't have time to fuck around and take it again to get a B+ or something.

It's way common, especially if you go to a college that requires professors to write books or studies and shit. Those professors are much more concerned in their own writings than teaching a bunch of people.

University of MD is like this for sure.
