The Spoonfed Tribe Thread (Video Added!)

I decided to make a thread about this local Dallas band that has become more than local called "Spoonfed Tribe" Ive always heard about them on radio commercials for shows... just their name mentioned... and things back like 5 years ago. I never listened to them.

My friend asked me to go to one of their shows with him a year ago.
I went on mushrooms.
They rocked my exposed mind.

The band is sort of a genre-bender.
They play a mixture of alternative progressive rock with funk, reggae, world music roots, influences from all over the spectrum.

Im going to post a few of their songs here for you to sample and get a taste of their great work.

The best thing about them isnt just their music.
Their shows are amazing.
Its more of a gathering than a rock show.
Everyone there knows whats about to happen.
Everyone is going to dance.

They bust out with the psychedelic ambient shoegaze with tripped out visual projections, then revert to some funky hook that you cant get out of your head.
The singer pulls out his flute, that makes your heart flutter.
They rock out to a reggae groove that has all the beautiful hippie girls grinding the air around them.
They jam out for 15 minutes to a 4 minute song, and even slip in a obscure cover in the middle of the song.

I want to do my best to convince any shroomerite to attend their concerts. They have a new album coming out, and im sure they will tour outside of texas when it is out. i urge you to see their truely BADASS shows.

Heres the first sample of their music.
I love this song.
Its called Sea Monkeys.
They played it at the last show of theirs that i attended.
They played the song for at least 15 minutes. It was one of the ones that broke down into some obscure cover...
you know that song "ooooo... love to love you baaaby" by Donna Summer?
hahaha... i loved it when they went into that for 4 minutes jammed on it to hell and back into the original song.
other shows, theyve used "BlockRockin Beats" by chemical bros and "Carry on My Wayward Son" by Kansas.

The next song i have to showcase for you is called "Chupa Cabra"
It is off of their album "We Are Part of the Problem" from 2003.

This is the tribal part of Spoonfed Tribe.
If you see them play live... they will play this song (and their other percussion songs)
Thats one of the best parts of the shows.
Each member on a percussive instrument.
Whether they be a drumset, congas, or even their infamous psychedelic beer keg... it doesnt matter... just bang on that shit.

The tribal drum parts have everybody jumping. I love it.

Next Song... "Pickin' Weeds"
This song is from their first demo album self titled "Spoonfed Tribe" from back in 1999.

This song is a more grooving... acoustical... jamdown...
it has the feel that youre in a big circle with acoustic guitars and bongos and things just jamming with a lot of people.
I really love this song, my favorite from their first ablum.
I havent had the pleasure of seeing it live yet... maybe next show I'll have to yell out "Pickin' Weeds!!!" until they play it.
I also love the lyrics, the mythological imagery is great.

Mt. Vesuvius became mysterious
And the people of Pompeii
Had no place to play.

Zeus let loose your
Powerful use of lightning
Strike on through to
The hearts of truth

And atlas at last sighed.
And relaxed as
The earth came to
A tumbling CRASH!

awesome!!!

If that isnt your cup of tea, lets try out something else.
Lets try out a more Reggae vibe.
This song is called "New Policy"
It is also off their 2003 "We Are Part of the Problem"
I saw this song live only once, sadly... i hope they play ive seen them.

Look into my heart...
...Same size is my fist
I hit you with the love
Cause the love never miss.

I love the flute solo in the middle
Raja Ram of Shpongle and Ian Anderson of Jethro Tull made me fall in love with the flute.
Seeing this song live rekindled that love for sure.

Ok... the last song for now.... hmmmm...
Here is "Spearmint Rhino"

This song
A)Rocks out like homeless crackhead who found a 200 dollar scratch-off.
B)Chills out like a dead cow in a butcher's walk in freezer
