cakes alone for a week??

hello. i have 4 1/2 pint hawiians that are almost colonized except for the top(former bottom). one cake i cased already cuz it finished before the others. now, this saturday, i'm leaving to go on vacation to colorado for a week. what should i do w/ my jars? i will case them to buy more time for growth, but will they be fine being left in a terrerium unsupervised for a week? i have no friends that i could babysit for me. if i just heavily mist, then poke a hole in the bottom and top(small ones, of course), then would it be fine to leave alone during the next week? last thing i want is for them to overdue the growth, or to dry out. can someone help me?

They should be ok while you're gone.(left in the jar) If you are worried about them, put them in a ziplock baggie and store in the refridgerator. Good luck

sorry, i skim read your post Leave the cakes in the jars, put them in ziplocks in the fridge if they are fully colonised. You can put the casing in a ziplock too.... then in the fridge.
Good luck

dreamatrix! hello! so your saying then to wait until i return to put in the terrerium? so basically they wouldn't be okay to leave alone in the fruiting chamber for a week? cuz these buddies are ready to fruit.

Well, if they are ready to fruit, you don't want them fruiting while you're gone do you?? Put them in the fridge, inside a bag, when you get back, put them in the terranium.
Good luck
BTW Where you going on holiday??

i would just leave em in the jars like dreammatrix posted. i understand you want fruits when you get back but you need to worry about air exchange, humidity, contams, etc. just let em in the jar- it will let them colonize the middle further

I always wait a week after they are fully colonized to birth them. At worst they will pin and fruit in the jar and you can still birth them. But they aren?t fully colonized yet so I would just leave them in the incubator

well i am going to leave the casing and 1 cake in the tererium while i'm gone. i will put the other two either in the fridge or i'll just leave them incubating. i have two small holes at the bottom side of the tererium, and some small holes on the top plastic wrap. this will allow little air exchange, but some. i won't be able to keep the humidity up as far as spraying the walls down, but there will be enough(i hope!). i will let all of you know what happens when i come back. if interested, keep an eye out for my posts either saturday night or sunday. first attempt w/ hawaiians. are they good? seems like they are a favorite amongst a few particulars.
