Cakes are easy... [PICS]

Success with cakes is very easy. You don?t need a hi-tech lab to enjoy nice flushes from cakes. I found the following picture and some text describing the process on the internet:
  • Strain: Puerto Rican (multi-spore innoculation a la PF)
  • Substrate: Standard PF maximum fruiting mix.
  • Temps: Low-Mid 70?s
  • Fruiting chamber: Standard 10 gallon aquarium sealed with clear plastic.
  • Fanning: Once or twice a week.
  • Spraying: Once or twice a week.
Once the cakes are at 100%, birth them and scrape off all residual vermiculite. Set a bit of foil (or some other impermeable item) on the perlite and cover with some damp (field grade) vermiculite. Set the cake on this vermiculite layer and place a thin (2-3 mm) layer of damp vermiculite on the top of the cake. Wait and enjoy. Keep in mind that dunking was not used at any point in this process.

This picture represents a first flush. There are many pins forming on the top layer of vermiculite that do not show up in this photo, but the author contends they are forming at a rapid pace.

Nice First Flush! I always wondered about the layer of vermiculite on cakes. Is your friend going to dunk after this flush?

Oh yeah, fan once or twice a week? Or once or twice a day?

I would guess that this person would dunk only if it is 100% necessary and would avoid it if possible.

Once or twice a week? I know there has to be something wrong with that b/c if there wasnt, why do all the teks say 1-3 times a day, more if you can? You might end up with aborts or something, hopefully not.

LMAO! Btw, do you know what the "fanning" consists of? The lid is removed, the aquarium is sprayed with water, and then the lid is replaced.

The fanning is get all the stale air and co2 out your terrain. Then you mist the walls and replace lid.

Yup, this is a pretty good method. I use something similar, and those little cakes just love it. Your pics are an awesome example of how well this can work, for anyone, newbie, and oldbie alike

I never once called you a lier. You claim that im incorrect but im just saying what the faq's say. If fanning that little works for you than so be it. I don't see what 420 said wrong before Mickey. You described misting and called it fanning. Seemed a strange comment to me aswell.
