Cracking back to help with back pain?
    #6500638 -

3 days ago my back began to hurt. I don't recall pulling anything or a sudden start to the pain, it just kinda crept up and has gotten progressively worse for the past couple days. My friend thinks that cracking my back will bring me some relief...but I'm afraid it might just make it worse. Should I let him crack my back?

Since he is a chiropractor and all...

I think it's possible that it would help if done correctly but can he do it correctly, probably not.

If there is no bad pain when doing these correctly, I don't see any harm in trying.

You haven't started taking any new medications recently have you? I got put on something one time that made my back hurt like a mother fucker when I first started taking it, but it went away in 4 or 5 days. When it hurt really bad though I had a friend that was nice enough to give me a little massage, just 5 minutes or so, and it made it feel so much better

After 4-5 days it went away....

any medications that made feel like this from day one wouldn't go in my body again

I think they were antibiotics for something I had and you cant exactly stop taking antibiotics half way through. Seriously though, massage

Unless your friend is a Chiropractor, I would be hesitant to let him "crack your back"

Go see a real Chiropractor, if you want some relief from your back pain. They are miracle workers when it comes to back pain.

I know its not good but I crack my neck and back all the time. Especially when I have a sore back.

Back cracking isn't rocket science. And it works.
Chiropractors charge way too much money.
Good enough for me.
I get my friend to crack my back sometimes, but its always good to follow up with some stretching and yoga and whatnot.. get those muscles all loose.

Same here. I can crack pretty much every joint in my body or whatever (over and over), thanks to MCTD. Those low in the back cracks though, those feel fucking good and have definitely made my back pain lessen at times.

try stretching by pulling your arm over your head, etc.
try to ice it.
and let your friend crack your back.

where is your back pain located? this matters.

it's possible for muscle knots to form and move. if you dont fix it, it'll grow back wrong. you have to heat it up, and rub it out (dont laugh). then ice. serious. do this like 5 times a day.

I'd say it depends on how your friend is cracking your back. There are some ways to crack it that i'd trust a friend - ie: cross your arms, have your friend go behind you, put his arms around you like a bearhug and pull back. But, things like cracking my neck or more of the 'twisty' cracks? gah! no.

May be worth going to a chiropractor, I used to have a terrible back, and found a chiro to be a huge help.

I crack my own back allll the fucken time though, my lower back gets really crunchy -- there are times where even I'm grossed out by the sounds it produces.
