Thumping technique?!?!?!?!? please respond
    #6484089 -

i will say, im quite new to the wonderful world of mycology, just starting up and getting things going for my first fruiting cycle... but i have a firend (who talks a lot of shit some times) but he said that right before harvest, you can actually thump the cap and cause spores to fall back on to the cake/casing to get a better 2nd flush. i was just wondring if that sounds familar to anyone? or if hes just making shit up again...

Welllllllll..... spores mate each other (I beleive it's a compatible hyphae... not sure.. dont quote me..)to make myc. This then colonizes the substrate. Your freind is telling you to "thump" the cap to make spores fall from the cap to the cake? Well, I'm not sure becuase only a 100% colonized cake should be going into the FC anyways so that means there is no room for spores to germinate although I might be wrong, I don't see this making a better 2nd flush becuase the spores would have to mate then it would just colonize to the cake again, making more myc. but I doubt it would change your results by a large amount. ANyone else on this? 2. Why would you keep your mushies on a cake long enought for them to be able to release spores? It's a good idea for potency reasons, pick when the viel is about to tear or has just teared. I'm not sure about this whole idea of thumping. Anyone know somthing more about it?

Your friend is full of poopie.

Spores are for making new mycelium. It's the mycelium's way of sexually reproducing.

Saying that mycelium will fruit better if it drops its spores on itself is like saying you'll get stronger by jizzing on yourself.

I do know that when we went out into the fields on our hunts we were told to always "thump the caps" to keep the fields productive. That may be where he gets that idea. I am not sure if it ever worked but shit, it was worth a second of my time to possibly keep a good thing going.

Spores on the casing seems to always prevent pins for me.

I've heard some people around here say that, not knowing what they're talking about.  It's apparently some myth that got spread around.

Complete bullshit.  Stupid.

I can see where that might help outside, but i've heard it will draw nuterients from the cake/casing(wich should already be as colonized as it's going to get) and actually hurt your 2nd flush.

Enough spores fall by themselves that you're not helping anything by "thumping the caps". It's just some myth.

Total BS! Spores falling have absolutely nothing to do with future flushes indoors. Your pins are already formed IN YOUR INITIAL PINSET for your first few flushes.

this would be something to do if you had a patch outside that
came back every year, for indoor cult. its useless...
