does 'thumping' a cap, really make it drop the spores?

If I flick a cap, will it drop millions of spores?
I was under the impression 'ripe'(forgive my terminology) spores were 'rejected' from the cap at the time of maturity... which can take place in a short amount of 'our time'
I was also under the impression flicking a mushroom cap will not help pro-create a patch more than cutting the mushroom base with a sharp knife.
Yet some people insist otherwise... I tend to lean back and scoff... Am I false?

If there in a grow chamber and are growing off a fully colonized substrate then there would be no point to thumpen them, if thats what you mean. The spores would not make it grow more mushrooms from what I understand.

imo you are not wrong, we both could be wrong though but i doubt it. spores will be released when it is time, not because you thump the cap.
:peace:

I just thought it was silly that my friend kept thumping all the caps before we picked some panaeolus mushrooms. I was like ' you're breaking off the caps and it does no good'! yet he insisted on doing it.... I made sure he had the decapitated half of the stash

Thumping the cap does nothing.
