RH for casings vs. cakes

If 95% is the RH to shoot for with cakes, and casings require less humidity, then how much should the RH be dropped in a terrarium with casings? Also, since a perlite layer is often not sufficient for cakes, then is it about right for casings? I've heard that perlite is actually too wet for casings but someone posted that they were only achieving 80-85% RH with a thin perlite layer across the bottom.

OK. I've seen complaints posted about overlay and too much pinning in casings when using 90+% RH, that's why I was wondering. I'll monitor the growth carefully, that's about all that can be done, I suppose.

I would shoot for 80-85% rH in your terranium wth casings. If you're having problems acheiving that, take all the Perlite out of your terranium and fill a Cool Whip container about halfway full or something, and add water. This will not make such a mess either.

Well I just always shoot for that range, cuz that combined with the higher rH under the casings always seems to work just right for me. Either way its all good though.

u must also keep in mind that the humidity level in the atmosphere directly in contact with the surface of the mycelial network is a few degrees higher than the conditions in the terranium.
