"save to journal" feature.

I know this has been recommended before.. but i think it would be sweet if we had an option on the original post (the user who starts the thread) to check a box that says "save to journal" and then a copy of that thread and all the reponses would be saved into your journal

i just think it would be nice for threads that you would like to save, trip reports, and grow logs.. and be nice to look back in a couple years and be able to read through some of your old posts that you wanted to save and the responses.

it seems like a good idea, but would that not take up huge amounts of server space, depending on the quantity of saved threads?

yeah, im not very computer savy, so Im not sure... maybe putting a limit on the space each user takes up?... kind of like pictures?

hell i had to ask ythan why .bmp format wasnt allowed the other day... i just think it would improve the functionality of the site if it could somehow be implemented.

Thats not a bad idea.
But are you aware that by clicking the you can save a thread, not just yours, to your 'home' for later viewing.

yeah, but if it was in your journal, users would be able to continue to carry on the conversation of that thread, at whatever pace.. and not have to worry about bumping the thread in the forum.. or having to search for it.

Isn't it pretty much the same as the favorites list in My Home? The only difference would be that, in the journal, the threads would be visible to others.

Perhaps one could toggle whether or not to make their favorites list available for others to review in one's journal? That probably wouldn't take up as much space as saving copies of threads.

I couldn't see how they would, as even OTD threads no longer expire. The worst that could happen is someone deletes a reply in one of the threads or something.

Anyone who followed the link from your list of favorites which would be in your journal would be able to reply to the threads, since its just a link to the thread itself, in whichever forum it is in.

I think a list of links in the journal and a script to place a dynamic copy of it from one's list of favorites in their home will take up a lot less space than a lot of multiple-paged threads with their content. :grin:

yeah, and it seems to be pretty much the exact same thing..
