That would be impossible for me right now unless I quit my job, as the sun comes up right when I start 8 PM, and it's already dark by the time I get off 4:30 pm.  Canadian winters .

As Xanthas said, get to a sleep lab.  Some people with sleep apnea actually wake up hundreds of times per night without knowing it, so your body could just never be reaching the level of REM sleep that it needs to get a good nights rest.  No matter what it is, they'll hook you up to a bunch of machines there, and in a few weeks after the results are analyzed, they'll be able to help you out, I'll bet.  My boyfriend's parents both had (have) sleep apnea, and now sleep with breathing machines on.  They say that while before they could sleep 10 hours and wake up exhausted, they can sleep like 6-8 hours now and wake up feeling like a million bucks   Good luck!!

Do you think it could be complete lack of natural light?

I live in canada, and right now it's dark when I wake up and go to work, then dark again when I get off, seems to make me depressed, probably fucking with my sleep too.

There are clocks you can buy which will wake you with a gradual increase in light which will help reset your body's natural rhythms. Another benefit is that they will bring you out of REM gradually. Alarm clocks can interrupt you during REM when you should be in a lighter sleep just before you wake. Otherwise it can take hours to get rid of that groggy feeling.

Here's one based upon the same principle but doesn't use light. I think I may get myself one of these.

But dear one!

That is just it!

We got artificial light now a days.
When the earth was fresh, we migrated...

Now we recreate!

i would also suggest exercise to you, i usually go work out 3 times a week, always in the morning.

it helps a lot with anger managment, im overall more calm oh and its a great way to start the day !
also i noticed sleeping more than 8 hours totally DRAINS my energy instead of giving it back to me !

If you can afford to drop $150 get a Sleeptracker watch

http://www.sleeptracker.com/

It records your sleep cycles, including your REM cycles, and you can set it to wake you up within a window of time where you are the most awake. This will have you feeling refreshed and not tired or groggy when you wake up. I think the reason most people wake up feeling very tired is because they are in a deep-sleep cycle. If you ever wake up in the middle of a dream you'll know what I'm talking about.

I still wouldnt take things to sleep. But maybe on friday night you can stay up all night, then by 9pm or so saturday you will be ready to sleep at the right time again, then you wake up around whenver and your back on the sleep scheduele. I bet the sun, and your family and your job have to do with it.
Like I said, I just went through some pretty big changes and I wake up all early and cant sleep, its not the most pleasant thing.
You should be proud dude, having a wife and kid that is a beautiful thing  Im sure she appreciates you waking up so early for your guy's well being. Hang it there, things are going to be ok
