waking up in the morning
    #5580579 - 05/02/06 07:28 AM (17 years, 8 months ago)

On days when i can sleep as long as i want (usually the weekends), i get this horrible feeling when i'm just waking up in bed. It's when i sleep to the point when i can't sleep anymore. But i do want to sleep more, because i love sleeping. So i get to this point where i'm too tired of sleeping to sleep but too tired (as is groggy) to get up out of bed. And it's just horrible because my mind wants to sleep more but my body doesn't want to. My body's restless from being asleep so long but my mind is still very tired and doesn't want to "face the world" so to say, yet. Because of this i hardly ever wake up feeling refreshed... that happens very rarely.

This probably sounds stupid... but anyway i was wondering if this happens to anyone else and how you deal with it? How can i get my mind and body to agree when to wake up, so that i feel rested after i sleep?

Yea man i understand where ur coming from.

timing is everything like u said.

things i do are open my window and blinds before i goto sleep so that when i wakeup its SOOO nice in my room. then ill look out the window half asleep for the next 20min or so before i have to goto the bathroom then my day starts...
of course you could always use coffee or somethin to wakup that mind of yours.

lately ive been sleeping 3-4hours tops at a time. i have no sleeping pattern whatsoever. but ive been doing better in class and feel much more energetic than i have in months! w/e works for you :smile2:

I'd say just will yourself to get up. What you describe often happens to me, where I really want to sleep more, but I'm just not sleepy. I usually just force myself to get up and do a quick stretch and then I'm fully awake.

Life is to damn short to sleep..........you are wasting away your best years sleeping.

Would you allow your balls drag on the sidewalk while riding a bike ? ( assuming you a man )

Would you allow your arm pits to stink to high heaven during sex with the most beautiful girl you ever met ?

Would you allow you car to run out of oil knowing damn well it's gonna blow up and the best job you ever had is depending on it ?

Would you beat off three times a day and give your self nasty bloody blisters just because you like beating off ?

Would you fuck your girlfriend in the ass twice in a row even though she said " stop pull it out, it hurts, it burns and everything ! " Just because you like it that much ?

Would you wear dirty smelly clothes and NEVER wash them just because you would rather not do laundry ?

Would you tell you mom to shut her stupid fucking mouth, even though you think about it every time she opens her stupid fucking mouth ?

Would you pick every Rose in the garden just because you like Roses on you dinner table ?

Would you let your dog shit on the carpet during breakfast just because you like bacon more than cleaning up dog shit ?

Would you eat shrooms 24 hours a day 365 days a year because you like tripping ?

What about wiping your asshole after pooping ? I can't say I really enjoy the crap and paper ball I make after shitting. What about you ? Would you just walk around with a crack full of dingle berries just because you don't like making paper shit balls ?

WOULD YOU ? and why not ?.................

Now.... why did I use such vulgar questions to illustrate the point I will make ? TO GET YOUR ATTENTION.

Do I have it:lol:

Look here dude...........There are many things in life we enjoy so much as to let everything else slide. We do drugs until we bleed failure. We will have freaky sex with hundreds of people until our dick rots. We will do man many many things to ourselves......True true true. BUT ............

Sleeping is the only true thing that steals from our life. WE can not get that time back in anyway. Not in memory, not in rewards from our efforts, not in any way. That time is lost. Sleeping is like a death of our life. It is a nasty trick of evolution. Sleep is a huge zero. The only benefit is the rest our bodies need to process things. Our bodies only need 5-8 hours that's it.

OK OK OK................what is my point then........ ?

Realize that all the sleep you enjoy so much is killing you. Your doing more damage to your life than that full blown druggie hooked on needles. At least he stays up for days and days enjoying his high.

You have only a very limited time to live. Why would you spend the VAST MAJORITY of it in death ? Sleep is death of your life.

Sounds hard core but really that is true. Sleep is wasted time, wasted opportunities and very unhealthy.

I suggest that you make a revaluation of your priorities in life and decide what is important. Set your alarm for 8 hours of sleep and get up. Be a man about things and grow up. Real grow mature people have a plan in life and guess what ? Sleeping is not part of forward growth.

Good luck with your quest to sleep less. But I think your just use to sleeping and being unmotivated......... We do not work just so we can sleep what would be the point in that > You might as well just be homeless and sleep all day in the park

I suggest you plan something to do first thing in the morning you really realy liketo do. Find soemthing that willotivate you to wake up. But if it were me, the fact my life is wasting away 12-16 hours everyday I sleep. I would do the math and see how many days, weeks and years I am closer to death.

P.S...............I once used to be plagued by cronic sleeping patterns ...........But I did the math and it freaked me out and that was all I needed

Dude good post.....

I oversleep.... I have all these problems...... I wake up and I'm tired, so I sleep some more. Then I wake up and I'm even more tired. So I sleep some more. Then I wake up and I'm really really tired, more tired than I woke up the first time, and I think "well you're going to be tired no matter what you need to get up" but then I sleep some more... then I wake up and say "alright next time you wake up you're just going to HAVE to get up" and so I do.

It's oversleeping I guess? THERE IS NO SUNLIGHT IN ME ROOM OR IN ME APARTMENT!!!!111 IT SUCKS !!!! 11

I mean it does suck..... waking up sleepy.............. the only thing that wakes me up refreshed is if I'm in a lucid dream and I force myself to stay in the dream as long as I can even though I keep waking up I go back into the dream and back into the dream and back into the dream.... so when I finally wake up for real my brain is overcharged and I'm alert! alert, imagine that.... instead of........

do you know how many conscious thoughts are in my head normally when I'm so groggy?

...............................................
...............................................
......................*realizes he is half asleep but continues to zone out* .......................

but all the while where those dots are, my subconscious is just blithering away about things and I'm not really that aware of what it's saying.

I mean like........ I don't know. I never enjoy getting up. I like having no conscoius thoughts in my head, so that I can only breathe about 3 times before I zone out and go into a near sleep state..... I like being zombified I guess. But I also really don't like it because I really do want to be able to get up in the morning and be awake.....

I think to myself "no man you're going to be so terribly tired the whole day long just sleep in" but then I say "no that's a lie i won't even remember what it felt like being groggy in bed 15 minutes after I get up, and I'll feel fine"

but it's so hard to feel like starting the day when you're lying in bed and you got 6 hours or you got 10 hours or you got 8 hours or you got 12 hours and you're still just damn tired......

i think youre forgetting about dreaming.... ive had the most magnificant adventures in my dreams that i wouldnt change for anything in the waking world. while oversleeping might be a waste of time, sleeping is very much an essential part of life not just physically, but mentally.
unless you can show me how to fly in real life, ill keep enjoyin my sleepin  :smirk:

That sounds kind of like sleep apnea to me. Basically it causes you to stop breathing in your sleep so your brain wakes you up and you never get deep sleep. It can make waking up really, really difficult.

I was late a lot in high school because I had trouble waking up. I thought I was just being lazy or something, but it turns out I have sleep apnea. Now that it's treated I get much better sleep, feel better during the day, and waking up and getting out of bed is easy.

Thanks everyone for your replies... especially fucknuckle's strong opinion on the matter.

monamine i think that may be part of the problem. I wake up probably a dozen times during the night to change sleep positions and flip my pillow around. I thought this was normal but i've been talking some to friends about it and apparently this is not normal. And there are people who sleep an entire night without waking up once.

Is there a special kind of doctor you should see about sleep problems, or should i just go see my MD?

Sleep is necessary. Get a good amount. 8 hours a day is good.

I suggest exercising in the morning. It will wake you up. Showers are good for that, too. If you are having trouble getting out of bed, try setting an alarm clock. Good motivation.

this is normal they just have bad memmory..... we wake up at least 7 times each night if what I remember reading is correct.

people like you and I must remember each of those times :x

also if you sleep deprive yourself like say you go to bed at 3 a.m. and get up at 7 like some people do then yeah you might not remember waking up at all.

and yes you can go to a hospital and have a sleep study done.... i was having problems with apnea and even though i had episodes of apnea WHILE THEY WERE STUDYING ME they said I looked "normal"

thankfully i haven't had those problems in a long time or if i have them i never remember them. i probably don't have them.

then you just shut it off and go back to bed.

i have mine accross the room and the thing is i wake up before it goes off, i wake up about 5 times before it goes off.....

the first time i check... how much time do i have left to sleep? a while, good.

then i just keep waking up and checking.... and eventually it goes off and i get up and set it for later and go back to sleep until it's as late as it can be for me to get up and hurry to class.
I don't think I'm making enough alpha waves.

i was pretty sick last night and took a shot and a half of nyquil.

i haven't slept so well in ages. i woke up after a mere 6 hours of sleep but felt totally refreshed. i then slept in 2 more hours 1 of which for the purpose of lucid dreaming.

though I "woke up" during the middle of the night, never all the way, I was still in clearly sleep induced brainwave states just somewhat aware that "hey i'm partially awake....... i feel nice" and i think this is the biggest factor because normally i'd wake up fully and go back to sleep and such.

thanks nyquil!
