Black Sabbath and Deep Purple are pretty easy band to learn their songs...

i think Hey Joe by Tim Rose is pretty good because it uses a lot of the basic chords. C G D A E i believe. but if you're experienced enough to teach him, you should know some songs that you began with, or did you just go right to shredding :P.

Fuck that, give him some Yngwie Malmsteen songs to play. You want to start off with a challenge, that's the fun.

hhaha. I'm teching myself to play. So I've got a bunch of chord books, and basic guitar mastering book, a blues guitar basics book, and a bunch of tabs I downloaded.

Buick Mackane by T.Rex is a pretty simple song to learn. no chords, just a hammer and sum plucking.
Rocky Racoon by the Beatles has a pretty simple chord progression, Am7, D, G, and G7 i think.....

Like I said I'm learning too, so my suggestions might not be the best.

thanks for the suggestion. never heard the song, but im gonna learn it and teach it to him if he knows/likes it. and i dont really know many songs by other artists. when i play/practice, i just jam out to chords and scales trying to reach out for things that sound and feel good naturally. and i play to any music by ear all the time, but never learn how to actually play what theyre playing. i really know only a certain few songs that i learned back when i was starting, which was like 7 years ago. ive just never been the type to learn songs. i do expect to learn quite a few songs now that im teaching someone.
