Boxing or Jiu Jitsu?

Alright so last week I felt really angry and had these violent urges and thoughts. I'm a really peaceful person and was upset that I felt like that. I am now considering what to do to relieve stress. I used to train with a bag in high school and did actual boxing for a half year and loved it.
I am now debating on whether I should start boxing again or try out Jiu Jitsu? I still work out on a regular basis but I feel if I add either boxing or Jui Jitsu in to my schedule It will keep me more busy and less stressed. I'm aiming for boxing, however Jui Jitsu is cool because you learn crazy shit where people cant touch you. I think boxing is more fun however my friend peter is in to Jui Jitsu and loves it and has begging me to start since the summer? Hmmmmm, what do you guys think?

That's a tough choice! they are both extremely useful in mixed martial arts. I think Jui Jitsu is the most useful of the two as far as mixed martial arts goes. for street fights I would rather be a boxer though.

now if you want to be a true hardass I would suggest you learn Kinomutai. it is the art of biting and gouging. If you want to fuck up your oppenent severly learn this. It teaches you how to bite a nipple or penis off in seconds!

Muay Thai, but Martial arts is a life style and a life choice, it isn't to learn to 'beat people up' or do all sorts of 'crazy stuff'. In fact if you were to get in a fight and were a skilled student, you would probably end it as quickly as possible with as little moves as possible, because it's not about showing off, at least not on the street.


I'd say boxing would be the best choice, as martial arts can become excessively frustrating if you don't have the right mindset...

if you are in a bar fight and you are trying to arm bar or triangle chocke someone you are gonna get your ass beaten by all the other dudes brawlin. If you are ina bar fight and you are a boxer you have a much better chance nuff said!--- yo

Yeah, I know a lot about all that shit. I'm not doing it so I can go out and fight someone, I am more focused on just doing something that I will enjoy. Yeah muay thai is like a really advanced form of kick boxing, and looks to intense, I used to do taekwando kick boxing when I was younger and it was pretty cool though. I'm just wondering if I'm going to want to learn Jiu Jitsu and regret not taking it. I have my mind set on boxing I'm like 80% positive that Ill end up just boxing. I don't like fighting any more (like on a street), so I really don't care about the self defense aspect of it or I would pick Jiu Jitsu or another art I am more focused on the sport aspect of it. I want to do something that will be fun, that I will enjoy and still be able to learn. I think I'm going to start boxing again, I love sparing and just going at it, plus working with the bags are great and a really good workout.

I learned that TKD is a joke the hard way. I'm a 'red belt' well I've trained to that point, and I got my ass whooped by my friend who's in Tai Chi, he's not even at as high of a level as redbelt in TKD or even close...

Jiu Jitsu is better for one on one fights, however it does not just teach you submissions. It teaches you all about placement and if you are very experienced you could destroy people in a bar fight. The Jiu Jitsu Bible teaches you so much and besides for ground fighting, it teaches you, quick take downs, throws where you can send people flying and a whole lot more.

But it takes years of practice and training before it can even be put into realistic use.

a street fight will never compare to a martial arts. I heard about a hardass UFC dude that got into a streetfight and got stabbed and had to got fucked up. So much for your years and years of training. just do what you think you will like the best. jui jitsu and boxing are both very physical just expect more pain to come out of boxing.

I'd still say boxing, because I'd hate to see you start something and then after 3 years of not moving up because your master doesnt' feel you're ready... you know how the story goes right? Especially in personal training.

Lol, Tai Chi is more like a dance form of the martial art. It is almost like yoga. I did Tai Chi also for a while with my best friend and his family, before I moved to New York and it is very relaxing I never used any weapons though. TKD is bad ass, it all depends on the teacher, the person and how much you practice. A lot of places give out belts like there nothing. The place I went to sucked to, and I didn't learn much except for Friday nights when we would kick box each other.

Dance form, yeah but in that dance he can (my buddy and his master) dislocate multiple joints on your body, snap your leg, and break your neck.

American TDK is a joke, Korean TDK is pretty good. Still, TDK tend to be the first people out of the arenas when they have large international fights between different arts.

yeah, I'm pretty positive, that I'm going to pick boxing. I walk away from fights now, so I'm not worried about self defense, and like you said, there really is no fair fight anymore if its on the street. I think I'm going to do boxing, its fun and a great work out and when I used to do it It was a great way to relieve stress.

I do admit though it is a good way to gain patience and lack of anger. Tai chi is at least. A lot of meditating.

yeah, I know. I thought about jiu jitsu like a year and a half ago and was going to try it out in college but then said fuck it. Then my friend who moved from Poland who I met this summer was all in to it. He was always begging me to go with him and I always would tell him "I'll think about it". With boxing, my father was a boxer and ever since I was little we would mess around, I always had my own gloves and was pretty good at it. I used to box my friends from football or lacrosse in the locker room and then senior year started up with a trainer and boxed for a half year and I loved it. Now I am feeling that I want to start something like that up again and was just thinking everything out.
