shaking grain-progress meter?
    #640058 - 05/22/02 06:19 AM (22 years, 8 months ago)

First time bird seed attempt. 8th day.
I'm getting rapid colonization between shakings, but every time I shake it minimizes the mycelium to where it looks like it's only just started. After 36 hours it looks almost ready to case, then shaking makes it looks far from done. What's the progress meter, the appearance of the grain right after shaking or a peroid of time after?

I usually only shake 2 or 3 times... If it is almost colonized don't shake anymore. Just let it finish...

good luck!

The shaking makes it so every kernel will get colonized. Whne you dont shake it, it takes a while longer to reach every single one.

Once its compleltly white, dont shake anymore, just let it get back strong then case it!

OK, but then I shouldn't over-shake when removing the spawn for casing?

Maybe just lightly crumble it enough to transfer.

I see. I've shaken several times now (it was almost fully distributed before the last one) so I'll just let it fill out for a day and case. Thanx.

If you make a GLC http://www.shroomery.org/forums/showflat.php/Number/6817701 and get your moisture to where each jar will handle 5-10 cc and you shake it right after noc it will be colonized in 10 days without shaking again, strong and rhizo. It is easier to do with rye than WBS because the moisture is more easily absorbed.
