tiny tiny pin??

on my friends mezzie cake...he noticed tiny itty bitty little pins.. 2 of them they cant be more then a millameter big... they are absolutily tiny.... i think they are pins cause at the very tip of them they are slightly brown tipped....is this normal for them to be this tiny?
