Seasonal thread,,,, Sleep disorder.
    #6340280 -

Winter is upon us again,, and with the fading daylight my sleeping pattern (such as it is) slips away from me uncontrollably.

Even in summer i'm the kind of person who stays up late,, usually until the day starts to break. It's not a problem in summer because even though i'm sleeping late, i can still get up relatively early.

The problem starts in the winter.
This is the 6-7th year running where ive started finding it very difficult to get to sleep before 8 in the morning,, this leads to me waking up at 4 in the afternoon feeling incredibly tired.
If i didn't physically pull myself out of bed i think i could lie there in a blissful daze for most of the night.
And i get this feeling every year without fail.

It's starting to annoy everyone around me again, and because i'm not getting much daylight and i feel guilty about being nagged so much, this sleep 'disorder' can bring about seasonal depression which can make christmas tricky.
In the past its got to the point where i stop dragging myself out of bed and it'd look to anyone like i'm in some serious depressive state,, even though i don't feel that bad.
Eventually just want to lie in that bliss to avoid all the nagging..

Does anybody have a similar problem,, or have any info about it..
I don't even know what to call it.
It's not laziness because i only ever sleep for 8 hours,, and i'm fine during the summer, i can still be productive.
It's just this winter thing,
I don't even know if it's a valid thing to go to the doctors with.

No, you don't need a doctor. Just a plan.

Pick a reasonable time that you want to get up at and do so. Use an alarm clock. Drink a glass of water and shower after getting up to make it easy on yourself. Then you can eat breakfast, which will normalize your metabolic cycle to getting up at that time.

If you don't want to go through that much stress, you should consider sleepign later and later until you cycle around to waking up in the early morning. Works for me. =)

Exercising in the morning is an even better way to go about this.

P.S. I fell asleep yesterday at aroudn 10 PM.. woke up at 1.. went back to sleep before the sun came up.. woke up at 5 pm. Just goes to show.. your body lieks to sleep. When you do not make it do stuff, it will resort to shutting down and conserving energy. The thing is.. it kindof has a negative effect when you don't do it right. For example. you could feel so lazy that you can't even be comfortable while sleeping at night. That is because you are so weak from being lazy all the time. That's wh y exercise of some kind is vital when being lazy/not doing anything all day. You could do yourself a favor by not sitting down for more than an hour at a time.. just getting up to move around and stay flexible. Take a walk. Just do those simple things that will make lal the difference in your strength.

No sun light = No serotonin release.
No serotonin release = Nothing to rearrange in to melatonin.
No melatonin = Not getting sleepy.

And this all results in a "fake jet-lag" experience...

Maybe this is a interesting read;

And BTW; Anyone please correct me if I am wrong about the serotonin/melatonin relation, but if so, then please back it up!

Don't you think it would be more apt to not speak about stuff that you don't know about? That's not exactly helping..

You must reset your body's internal rhythms. But it will take effort at first.

Light is key. Do not stay up until dawn. Set your alarm for a reasonable amount of sleep and get active. Let as much sunlight as you can stand into your home first thing in the morning. It will be difficult to be active at first when your body feels like a ton of bricks and you keep dragging it along but eventually it will respond if you do not give in to it.

When bedtime approaches do just the opposite. Lower the lights. Lower your activity level. Do not listen to loud music or watch a loud tv program.

Go to bed.

Repeat.
