Guide for beginning trippers
    #6344628 -

Hello.

I'm hoping anyone who's thinking of trying shrooms for the first time will come across this and read it. This is what I believe are a good set of guidelines for your first trip.

1. Set and setting - Pick a place somewhere where you feel safe, and with people you trust. Make sure you won't be bothered by things like telephones and the like. Make sure you have zero responsibilities the next day. If you're planning on tripping with anyone who has a negative attitude, DON'T. Negative and positive thoughts and emotions take on a whole new dimension when you're on mushrooms. Trip only with positive people. I had an experience once where me and my best friend were tripping balls on the kitchen floor, and there was a knock at the door, and we thought "SHIT! COPS!" (I'm sure a lot of people have done that) But anyway, one of my friends came in and just started talking about the most depressing shit in the world and it decimated the fun factor of the trip and made it into shit until I fed him some shrooms to shut him up, and even then he was being negative, which sucked.

2. Hydration. Very important. Avoid juice - There's a lot of signs pointing that acidic juices will intensify the trip, but nothing's been proven with that idea. On a side note, I believe Vitamin C cleans out your system, and that will shorten the trip. I still reccomend a colorful fluid such as Gatorade or Kool Aid, because those are fun to look at when you're tripping.

3. Snack food. You might get hungry. Have something fun to eat handy. Again, my recommendations involve avoiding acidic and vitamin c laden foods. One time, I put the frying pan on the stove (I didn't turn it on) and I invented a new snack. Pretzels and syrup. That rocked.

4. Music. Have some music to listen to handy. Nothing too crazy like death metal, or nothing to fast, but preferably something that you just genuinely enjoy and makes you feel pleasant. I would recommend bands like Shpongle and Younger Brother.

5. Blankets. If you live in a cold climate, and if you're thin like I am, you might get this psychological thing going on where you're freezing your ass off even though it's 22 degrees Celsius in the room. It's nice to have blankets and maybe a sweater or something for that.

6. Toys. Have action figures and shit kicking around, those can be quite hilarious. Also, go to a craft store and buy shiny objects. Shiny things are fun to look at.

7. Paper and pencil, pens, pencil crayons. You might get artistic. You'd surprise yourself with your own creativity. Have a notebook or something that you can hold on to, I have one and I've treasured it for the last 3 years. It's super funny.

Anyway, if anyone has anything to add to this list, please do. I hope this helps aspiring trippers.

Dont plan your trip. Dont think too much into it.

Obviously take things into consideration, like food & water & music & clothes, but I find the most enjoyable trips are the random ones where you end up somewhere with random people.

Over the summer I tripped like every weekend, and every weekend me and my mate would end up in a completely random place with completely random people tripping balls. was good.

Random missions are the most fun aspect of any drug experience IMO

Yeah I used to think way too hard about what to do while tripping. I thoughy too much about what your "suppose to do". Now I just figure out where I am going to start tripping and have an immediate plan that will last for 30min-1hr. Then usually by then I am off in my own world walking somewhere or doing something that had never even crossed my mind.

That's a really good point, and that is what I do all the time, but however, for the first time I'd say there should be some planning in my humble opinion.

I tend to take the opinion of "Prepare for anything, plan for nothing"

Pretty much, I try and get things setup/laid out that I think I may want to make use of. examples

- Setup a few playlists
- Download new music
- Get some fresh music on my iPod
- Get any games / movies that I may want to watch in an easy to find location
- Get a backpack ready with things I may need if I want to go for a hike
- Find my keys / shoes / appropiate clothes, and put them into an easy to find location. ie: If its winter, I'll find my hat, scarf, warm jacket, hoodie, long johns, etc - and lay them out

I may end up making use of none of that stuff, and spend the trip laying under a blanket rolling around my living room floor  Or, I may decide to go for a hike. Either way, having the things you *might* need in an easy to access spot, can make the trip go much smoother.

Trying to find your keys, or lighter, or your favorite hat when your apartment is melting around you can be a pain in the ass. But, if everything is laid out and you can just grab it with no effort, makes life easier.

I also have my pre-trip rituals of.

1. Cleaning my apartment - like, the 'best, most thorough cleaning I can give it'.
2. Ensuring any responsibilities are dealt with. ie: Homework, reading, studying, etc
3. Call my folks, just a quick 'check in and say hey', I'm close with my family, and its nice to talk with them
4. Pre-roll a few joints

Tripping in a nice / clean / organized room is far more relaxing then sitting on your couch and having all the clutter / etc around you distracting you. Its also nice going into a trip with a clear mind not knowing that I have an essay to do on Monday, or chapters I have to read, etc.

But, here is a thread I made on this topic awhile ago.

Yes, I agree with that.

Im dosing some cid and 2c-b this weekend . I always go through the ritual of taking care of everything etc. You feel so much better with yourself while your tripping, You can sit back and relax, and not feel bad about the fact you are on drugs (I get that a lot - especially when drugs take preference over college work)

If anything, I would plan out the days or even the whole week before the trip, but not the trip itself to any major degree. Ideally, one should prepare mentally and physically beforehand. Now, I admit that I have never gone to too much of an extreme in this regard, but here are a few things that, individually or in combination, can't hurt and could definately encourage a more beneficial trip:

1) Avoid fast food, excessive sweets, and excessive sugar for a few days before. Eat a high fiber diet. Of course, this is a good idea at any time, but it will help you have good energy and endurance for the trip. You definately don't want to be bothered by indigestion or anything like that, it will just make things less enjoyable. Any other personal health needs should be taken care of as much as possible as well. If you have allergies, asthma, chronic heartburn, athlete's foot...whatever, make sure to have any medicines, herbals, powders, and/or inhalers available if there is any possibility that they will be necesary.

2) Cut down on caffiene and other stimulants for a few days before the trip. Mushrooms are a lot less anxiety inducing than LSD, IMHO, but can still create significant anxiety in some. A lot of caffiene before the trip(even hours before) could make this worse. But, if you are used to drinking caffiene regularly, you don't want to be going through withdrawl right before or during the trip, so I would cut back a little in advance. I enjoy coffee during a trip, but more towards the end, and only in small quantities.

3) Meditate for 20 minutes every day for a week before the trip. This just means sit in a comfortable position and breath deeply and slowly. All other meditation techniques or enhancements are personal preference. Again, this is always a good idea, but particularly good if you want to have a good trip. Meditation and controlled breathing trains the mind and body to work together in a state of calm, deep thought. If you never know when you might trip, just meditate everyday. (20 minutes ain't gonna kill you)

4) Sleep well the night before? - This is all about your personal relationship to sleep. I love to sleep, but I feel better psychologically and physically during the day when I get less rather than more. If I sleep in late, I will be slow (mentally and physically) all day and I know from experience that my trips suffer as a result. Therefore I probably have my best trips after getting up early and staying active all day. Others might be different.

Of course, there are a few things that any first timer should know before tripping. You should know that you might not feel comfortable being out in public or around people who are not tripping, especially at the beginning of the trip. You definately want to have a 'home-base' - a safe, comfortable place where you don't have to worry about hiding the effects of the trip from anyone. This place doesn't necesarily have to be indoors, but if it is outside, it needs to be somewhere where you can hang out without worrying about cops or any other variety of trouble. And you should at least have a back-up place if the weather gets bad.

The set and setting thing is definately important-I agree with that part of the original post whole-heartedly. You don't want to have anything to worry about that day or the next (at least early the next day). A trip is...well, a TRIP, like a vacation. Ideally you should actually get out of town and go somewhere where you won't be reminded of the mundane details of your life. That is not to say that you should forget about your regular life, you will probably end of discussing personal problems in a whole new light; that is a positive thing. But you do want to step out of your routine. This pretty much happens automatically when tripping, but getting out of town helps even more.

If you can't do that, at least be somewhere pleasant. If you have a sloppy apartment or home, put forth a little effort and clean up first. Dirty dishes and smelly garbage are majorly unpleasant when tripping, and if there is crap all over the floor and furniture, it is all going to seem too cluttered and chaotic. Of course, if you are like me, you will eventually start cleaning the place like mad, but not until a couple hours into the trip. Its better to just have it clean to begin with.

I just had to add a funny story about cleaning while tripping.

The date is December 31st, 1999/January 1st, 2000, popularly known as the change of the millenium. The place is Chicago, in one of my best friends apartments, who, at that time, was known for his wild NYE parties. The host was not tripping (too many guests to worry about) but me and another best friend had a few sugar cubes. Now, I don't know about all of you, but sugar cubes have never been something that I am able to get whenever, or at all. For those that don't know, sugar cubes were at one time a common way of distributing liquid LSD. I am not sure why, but I guess sugar absorbs the LSD without dissolving very much. A good cube should have a visible stain on it, but not be falling apart.

Anyway, my folk knowledge told me that sugar cubes are more powerful than paper hits, and my experience that night confirmed it big time. My frind and I tripped BALLS. And the party was crazy, all types of drunk people, people wearing costumes, and just generally people acting crazy. There were also two Japenese girls who barely spoke English (they'll come into the story later).

As you all might remember, there was this little "Y2K" thing at about that time. Right at midnight, as everyone was counting down the seconds, one person went into the basement where the curcuit breaker for the apartment was and turned the power off. Many people believed Y2K had actually happened! It didn't fool me too much, but my other tripping friend really though it was the end of the world for a second. Then the power came back on, and someone (who was in on the joke) immediately turned on "The End of the World as I Know It" by REM. Everyone went nuts dancing and actually spraying bottles of champagn arund the party.

This is where the cleaning comes in. A few hours after midnight, most people were passing out, but the floors and most other surfaces were literally covered with a thin coating of sticky goo. There were also streamers, dishes, cups, empty bottles and just garbage everywhere. This was like the craziest party that I had ever been to, and the place was trashed.

My friend and I came to realize the filthiness just as people were starting to find places on the floor to fall asleep. We could not tolerate the thought of people sleeping in the goo, so we literally had to clean little spaces so that one person could lie down and then move on. We practically had to fight this beligerent drunk guy to let us clean off a little floor for him to sleep on, but he was too close to passing out to put up much resistence.

After getting enough floor for everyone to sleep on, we continued to clean around the bodies, picking up dishes, etc. We eventually got all the mess concentrated to the kitchen and went to serious work. The Japenese girls were still awake (I think they were actually trying to avoid being 'macked on' by the guy that they came with). Without a word, they just started helping us clean the huge pile of dishes by hand. We never talked to them and they never talked to us, we just worked side by side. For years, my buddy and I have joked about how they probably thought that we were engaged in some kind of American party tradition.

After the dishes we mopped the kitchen. We literally had to mop it like 4 or 5 times because the filth was so thick. At one point, there was this pile of party goo that had been mopped to the middle of the floor, with a tiny bit of "YEAR 2000" stremer sitting on top of it. We dubbed it the "Milenial Goo" and decided that it basically represented the sum accomplishments of the 20th century.

By the time we were done, it was light and we had probably been tripping for like 12 hours. We went for a walk and to get some beverages, fearing that everything would be closed because of New Years Day, but found the very closest gas station to be open. It was still a few hours before everyone got up, and they thought that they were tripping when they saw how miraculously clean the place was.

Wow, so I guess that was like a whole trip report, but I hope you enjoyed it.

Ya, that list is alright, but thats way to much planning. Just don't hang out with douchbags, be in a place where you won't need to drive for the night, and ya, roll yourself up some joints.

I hardly want them while tripping, but wanting to get high and not being able to roll a joint sure does lend a bummer to a trip.

But who cares, eat your mushrooms and be on your way.
