Liquid Culture... Spores or Contamination?

I recently inoculated a bunch of karo jars with a variety of cube strains from TLG.

Only one has done anything at all. It looks fine, except for some purple specks deep inside the mycelia. Are these ungerminated spores that "condensed" on the mycelia? I dont recall seeing them upon inoculation.

I am really beginning to question the viability of these syringes.

from here, it would appear you have a beautifully healthy culture under way.

those specs may very well be remnants of spore "shells" and/or clumps of ungerminated/unviable spores...

at any rate, usually when you have a contaminate problem in an LC from the start, it won't happen at the same time as healthy growth.  and i see healthy growth.  that's good news :smile:

Thank you very much. Do you think I should make syringes out of it now, or allow it to mature a little more?

You can make a syringe now, but be sure to leave some mycelium in there so it will continue to grow. Try breaking up the mycelium before aspirating into a syringe.
