Brown Rice better then 50-50 verm/brf??

I have ordered some creeper strain and im trying to find the fastest way to grow. I have read from a few people that using straight Brown rice is better then 50/50. Is this true? or should i just stick with the 50/50? I dont remember if it was straight brown rice or brown rice flour. maybe someone can help me out.. thanks.

apples & oranges. brf is a substrate...food for mushrooms.
50/50 is a non-nutritive casing layer used to maintain moisture for your substrate

I would assume you are talking about you're cake at this point, I would not advise using straight BRF it is way to dense when wet it will stunt growth, when you add water to brf by itself and let it sit in that it will turn into a brick, the verm is in there to hold water and keep everything somewhat lose, stick with half and half for cakes.

I think when people use just rice they dont grid it up into flour. They just cook it up, as if you were gonna eat it, and use it just like that.

i think i have read this somewhere before,

brownrice is cooked and strained placed in jar, sterilized and innoculated.

i have only read about this... wonder if it works..

alternatively, you probably might also be able to add a 1/4 inch layer of vermiculite to the top to keep contams out...

yes i wasnt sure if it was the BRF or just brown rice but im sure they were talking about using just the brown rice as indicaz said. i found a website on erowid that shows this method used. n e one know how good it is?

50/50 and brf/verm are two different things. The brf/verm is the substrate, with nutritional value which Xazia said earlier. You use this to colonized mycelium on so mushrooms can form and be healthy.

The 50/50 is a casing to protect the substrate from drying out and from airborne contams. Look up casing on the FAQ for more info.

As for different substrates, you can use grain, like Rye berries or a millet based birdseed. These need to be pressure cooked however.

Well I`ve used both methods.
First I used the straight Brown rice cooked up and sterilised.
Worked really well, had good yields, good flushes etc.
Mushrooms were a decent size about 4" for the largest with a 1" cap.
All really potent, found myself tripped out level 3 off just 3/4 of a 3.5" mushroom.
The aborts as well were super strong. The mushrooms also tasted really nice, I`ve always liked the taste though. But they really tasted nice.
And they grew really fast, they were inoculated from an established culture though as well.

Today I`m mixing br/ vermiculite to fill 3- 500ml lysol canning jars, and 3 more brf/vermicultire. All with a spoonful of honey.
So far everything is going well.
Will post pictures soon of the process if you folks would like.

From my experiences though and a major group of people round here who've used just brown rice, it works like a bomb.
Then again a friend of mine grew a great batch of cubensis on teabags in a peanut butter jar.
So go figure.

So like I said I`m going to try cooked rice with vermicultie to see if the substrate will be a bit loser.

Also I`m from South Africa so maybe our rice is different, very good quality.
But doesn`t mean it`s any better.

50/50 refers to casing But im guessing you You talking about jars so here my results
Somebody here post away to make just using cooked Rice in the microwave it worked pretty Bad for me 3 out of 5 canning jars Took 4 months to fully colanize they are 1 pint
Verm/brf is fine leave it at that Verm puts spaces so that the mycelium can Move around the whole jar
