 Convince Me! Pros & Cons on the use of Salvia

Thinking of using it in the not so distant future....with one other person who also has never done it before. very trusted individual btw (medium sized doses for both of us)
Would anyone be so kind as to list off some pros and cons and personal experiences... So i can get a better feel for what i'm in for if i bother? Some tips would be greatly appreciated as well.

After trying salvia my first time, the thought I had immediately after coming down was something like, "I don't know that I liked that or not." It seems to have a limited or nonexistant effect on many people. On the rest of us it is a kick in the head.
The pros are about the same as with any other psycoactive drug, like mushrooms, lsd, dmt, etc. It doesn't last very long... a 1-15 minute trip followed by no more than an hour of intoxication symptoms.
Some of the cons are:
* very intense trip for some people
* no trip what-so-ever for some people
* not a party drug
* must have a trip sitter
* no research on health risks
* need a fairly decent scale to weight out doses
If you get the chance, I would recommend trying it at least once. You have to heat the stuff up to get a good hit and you have to hold it for 30-40 seconds. I usually let the smoke out my nose rather than mouth to help increase the effects. If you are sitting for somebody, be ready for them to get up and stumble around like the village drunk... talking to things that aren't there about stuff that doesn't exist. For them it is like sleepwalking... they have no idea what is going on or what they are doing until they come down (5 minutes or so is the longest I have seen anybody need to come back down). All my experience with salvia is the 5x standardized extract smoked.

IMHO, you don't need to weigh it out. Just plunk down some in your bong, and take a rip. Then quickly refill it since it burns very fast. Here's my pro's and cons. Keep in mind that this is just me now.
Pro's:
You're tripping
It doesn't last that long
Con's
It doesn't feel good
Best word to describe the sensation is "annoying"
It doesn't last that long

Pro: if you can feel the full effects of Salvia, it is unlike any other drug out there.
Con: not always enjoyable

well, i dont know how anyone can have a bad time on salvia!
everytime i've done it, or sat for a friend, its been incredible.
pros:
its amazingly natural
its legal
you'll be fine in 10 minutes (make sure u have a sitter)
cons:
-no reserch on health risks
-the first time you do it, you know that its going to be one of the most powerful experiences of your life, and that can be scary
-if nothing happens, then u might be a hardhead. sorry to hear that.
as for suggestion, read the faq at http://www.sagewisdom.org/faq.html also, do it outside, it likes the outdoors. and make sure its dark, try to keep your eyes closed, and silence is important.

Well the first time i tried salvia my friend bought some at a head shop. I was almost convinced it wouldnt do anything remotly intense. Well i was wrong. I had a bowl packed to the brim with leaves and just kept hitting it and smoking it hard and fast with a crack torch thingy. I started to feel wierd so i put the pipe down and leaned back. Everything took on an orangish color and i started thinking about my childhood. I ended up remember/thinking i was at my grandparents house and i was celebrating my 4th birthday party(crazyness cuz i had totally forgot about that and it was a long time ago). Nextthing i know im staring at the street light and im i think "shit im just on my porch in my backyard". I then felt off for bout 20 min or so then i was normal.
Wasnt too cool i prolly wont try it again. Atleast not for a while.

that's how i felt after i tried it. i first received 3.5g of 5x extract from Salvia Space, and 30g of dried hawaiian leaves from Cielo Ethnobotanicals. well after some experimentation with smoking and quids, my overall impression of salvia is not a good one. the experiences are extremely short-lived, and they feel a little too awkward for me. after smoking the 5x, i received some visual distortions, laughed uncontrollably for a while, and couldn't differentiate between speech and thought. the taste is not pleasant (either smoked or chewed), and the effects are not what i'm lookin' for - too dissociative. but hey, some people love it, so i'd still recommend givin' it a try, just don't go too crazy with it 'cause i'm speculative about the health risks since there hasn't been any research on neural-effects or possible long-term risks.

No dude, you should definatly try it at least once. One of the last few times i did it, i could have sworn that i was in my kindergarden class singing a song and cleaning up the toyz with my teacher. IT WAS GREAT!

hrm .. from personal experience it's ONLY cons, I found it highly unenjoyable and irritatingly mind expanding, just not what I look for in psychedelics at all.
To quote a good friend, the best way to describe the effects of salvia: "It feels like you are PMS'ing." as he and I are both male, I find this is the closest we'll get to experiencing it ... lol ... it sucks IMO but some people like it
