Growing San Pedro from cuttings

I just received 3 cuttings (16cm each and taken from the top) of San Pedro (Trich. Pachanoi) and I want to know that if what I planned to do was right : -wait a few days till the cuttings are really "woody" -dip them in a rooting-hormon formula -plant them in a pot with 50% cactus mix and 50% perlite (humid soil - thanx to the guy who first replied !) -wait a month till the roots grow -start to water it
Is this OK or do you have a comment/suggestion ? What about light, should they be exposed ? There are a few black and orange/yellow spots. Should I worry or that can be explained by the shipping ? Any advice about that ? Thanx for your replies and especially for the one who already replied in a deleted post !

I'ld wait more than a few days before planting if its a fresh cutting.Rooting hormone is optional. Not sure about the spots. Good Luck! Natural light is best, flouresent is fine.

High Tom,
GREAT!!!!
-wait a few days till the cuttings are really "woody" A: Take your time for it. The wound must be heald proparly! You will notice!
-dip them in a rooting-hormon formula A: Never done that, no need to!
-plant them in a pot with 50% cactus mix and 50% perlite (humid soil - thanx to the guy who first replied !) A: Just potting soil, you can ad some perlite but is not nessecarry because it hold on to water, and a cacti like SP likes dryness. Cacti soil has to less nutricients!!!
-wait a month till the roots grow-start to water it After you place the cati in the soil make the bottom of the soil humid. The cacti must stay dry. Like she smell the water she will sent her roots out!!! When you see some fresh green in the top you know that it came alive and is rooting. When her roots are fine she will start to grow. No roots no growth!! Best is not to expose the cacti to hot sun in this stage. Warm soil will speed up things a lot!!!
You can mist your cacti with a hand pump, the will be able to absorb some water trough the pins, this will wake them up too. Spray them early or late on the day!!!
You will learn to read your cacti very soon
Although in dutch... http://www.homepages.hetnet.nl/~larisa/sanpedro/sanpedro.htm pics are international.............

Thanx a lot Eric and Pinhead !
Eric, all the site you gave me about cactus are really great. I could start to learn dutch only for those pages
The reason why I'm interested in a rooting-hormon formula is a post from salviaengland where he compared a cutting with and whithout that supplement. The result was awesome.
I'll post pictures of the San Pedro and my peyote as soon as I get back my camera

High Tom,
is a post from salviaengland where he compared a cutting with and whithout that supplement. The result was awesome.
Well you can cut a big cacti in 10 pieces, they won't be acting the same. One part grows faster then the other. Respect the cacti while it needs time.
Any q's feel free to ask!

I can not take credit for that experiment, as it was not me. Many people try to avoid hormones and fungicide particularly if you are consuming the plants you are treating. Generally I would recommend leaving your plants to grow naturally if possible, however I suppose growing cactus indoors from a cutting through the post is not natural.

Sorry if I've been wrong Salvia ! I tried to find the post I was talking about but couldn't find it. Maybe that was an experience from psilocybe cubensis who posts a lot as well. But I remember that it was a salvia cutting and I immediately thought it was you. By the way, thanx for posting so many great pictures !
>however I suppose growing cactus indoors from a cutting through the post is not natural. You're right, but that was the only way for me to get cactus. And I thought they were plain cactus and not cuttings. Anyway, I share you views on natural growing (didn't realise that hormon were not natural at first...), but I'm still a newbie at growing plants/cactus, and I've got a lot to learn.
Thanx for your inputs everybody !
