san pedro

i just got 3 san pedro cuttings, and 2 of them had little baby cactus growing on them. they were old though, and the new growth looked as if it had stopped growing a long time ago and they are all white with just a hint of green on the tips. they have roots too. i plucked them off of the cuttings and put them in some cactus soil and some clay pots. this was a week ago. they haven't changed in appearance (obviously), but i was just mildly curious as to whether they will grow or if they are dead. san pedro seems hardy as hell, but you never know, i mean, it's new growth and i ripped it off of it's parent, so who knows... any thoughts would be cool

in general, you will be surprised by the resistance of this species! a friend recently gave a 1 foot pedro he had forgot for more than 6 months in a closet in a paper bag (unrooted, no soil, just lying in the bag). the amazing thing is that the catus continued to grow in the dark, so it had about 3-4 " of new growth completely white, given the lack of light. i simply cut off this new growth and planted it. it's doing quite fine now, let me see if i can post a pic of it later

here is a pic of this cactus. it's been not even 2 months since i rescued it from my friend, cut off the white growth and planted it. as you can see, its very happy and grateful to me for having him saved from a sad destiny. it will be an amazing alkaloids producer, i can feel it!

You know what else induces alkaloid production?

Pulling them out of their pots and sleeping with them in your bed at night. They love the closeness.
