How do I have a seed in this bud?

Okay, so it's my first time growing. I've only got one plant at the moment and it's probably about ready for harvest but I got impatient and cut a few of the lower branches off. I didn't expect to get any seeds at all but I just found one in one of the buds from a lower branch. I'm wondering how this could have possibly happened.
Don't bother asking why (since it's irrelevant anyway) but the plant was initially indoors for the first 1 1/2 months and then it was put outside for a while, maybe another 1 1/2 to 2 months. After that it was brought inside again but in a different residence where the flowering was started. The only time that it was around other plants was during the initial period where it was indoors. And at that point none of the plants were really starting to show their sex yet.
So I'm thinking that somehow the plant was pollenated in one of two places, either outside or in the room that it's in now for flowering. It didn't start to develop very many pistils until after being brought back inside though so that seems to be the better bet. The only other plant that I have nearby right now is a salvia plant. It's starting to flower but I doubt that could be the culprit .
Is it possible that this room in my new house was used as a grow room before I decided to use it for that? How long can old pollen hang around for?

Oh, don't say that. I just started another thread a little while ago about the tiniest little bit of light that I may have leaked and everybody said I'd be okay with regard to that.
I haven't noticed any pollen sacs. I'm confused .

its the only thing I can think of. its much more likely than the old pollen theory you had. they can go hermie late into flowering, it happens.

Well if that's the case then should I just cut it down now before it gets "more hermie"?
Can this happen just from having the plant flowering too long?

Make sure it's a seed though. If it's seed shaped but the same color as the bud itself it may just be a closed flower bud. I found one in a sack of Skunk #1 I was breaking up today and at first I was very excited, but unfortunately it was just one of these hollow pre-buds as I like to call them.

I wouldn't cut it down just because you saw a seed. Its not all too uncommon for a plant to grow a few male flowers and polinate the bud a little. Many different stress factors could have caused it.

i think madconductor and theman pretty much covered your possible culprits.
the only thing that would tell for sure, would be from your own research.

I have found that some females will throw a couple of seeds every now and then, It does not mean that your plant is Hermie for sure.... If your plant was turning Hermie, when the lights where on you would be able to see the pods forming.... I have had light leak problems before and have found that light leaks can make a plant seed up, but would need to be exposed to light for more than just a few minutes...

Perhaps you unkowingly shook hands with a marijuana grower who had male pollen on his hands then you touched your plant and one single pollen got to just the right place and bam seed.

Well it was definitely a seed first off. Not a very mature one but the sound that it made when it hit the paper plate unexpectedly gave it away. I don't really care if I end up with a few seeds though. I was really more concerned with keeping the room as pollen free as possible. But at least the room can be hosed down easily if need be. And if there's a next grow I'll just try to regulate shit better and maybe have a shorter flowering period.
