Alder Chips?

On my illustrious search for seattle cyans, I came across this 'dumping station'. Its where the city keeps all of its compost, dead trees, etc. I found this big pile of what I think are alder chips, could anyone verify this?

Well, they do look like deciduous wood chips, which you could verify if you managed to find some bark fragments. Other deciduous trees than just alder will make for appropriate cyanescens habitats, btw.
