Has anybody tried using marijuana as a substrate or mixed it in with your substrate?

..why? why in the world would anyone waste perfectly good marijuana, when something as cheap and easy to come by as horse poo is known to be the optimal substrate?

Are you expecting it to increase potency? Last I heard, THC wasn't a precursor to psilocybin or psilocin production, so I don't see that happening.

Plus, the mycelium can't really digest whole plant matter, which is why they thrive off of compost and horseshit (plant matter that has been broken down).

I suppose if you really wanted to do it, you could add some to a composting mix.. but I come back to why??

Well marijuana may be expensive to you, but its not to me and I have a whole lot of it and I don't smoke... so why not? Of course I know the THC isnt going to get into the mushrooms and add to the potency, thats not expected. I was just wondering if anybody had tried it and had success. It sounds fun to me.

decomposed stalks or limbs of plants maybe would work, but the thc won't transfer if that's what your thinking. LOL, maybe if you saved up quarts of seed? again, no thc is going to transfer to the mush. Oil and Water don't mix.

yes ...it works...rodger rabit grew some shrooms on a qp of white widow...search the forums..or ask rr....the pic is still floating around somwhere...

Well it costs me about 300 for a pound, and I don't smoke and have it laying around already so its not a big deal.

He did that for the novelty value though. Just like growing the mushrooms on the bible, the bra, and the stuffed animals. Not because it makes a good, practical, or even suitable substrate.

Let's see.. $300/lb marijuana compared to free endless supply of horseshit... damn, that's a tough decision.

Look man, I understand you've got the hookup and money ain't no thang... however it's just not practical. That is, unless you want to do it for shits and giggles, but don't expect anything worth a damn from it. And chances are it will fail alltogether if you don't have excessive background knowledge of mushroom cultivation.

i agree with tiny birds....get a few more grows with standard substrates under your belt before you go using you pot...

if you really dont want the pot i can arange for someone to come pick it up :wink:

Take that pot and grind it up real good and put it in a pot with 100% ethanol. heat and stir, remove solids, evaporate most of the liquids and cool the tincture.
Dip fresh mushies in the cooled tincture then put them in the dehydrator.
That would be a better experiment then trying to use it as a substrate.
