Caapi help please

HELP!!
My caapi that i got snapped... so I'm trying to get the broken one rooting.. i put it into a glass of water with some rooting powder... but the leaves are starting to dry out . . . is this ok?? does the cutting need leaves to survive??

the leaves are going to fall... i would recommend rooting on soil rather than in water. it takes some time to root but it should recover ok.

use rich potting soil, dark soil.
