sedative teas
    #6121217 -

hey all, ive been interested in sedative teas lately, and i live pretty close to a shop that carries all the legal herbs you could want, so i was wondering, what are some good herbs/combos to get one really chilled out and carefree?

I was thinking:
Dagga
Lotus
Kratom

How do you think these would mix? or by themselves?

Fresh Lagochilus would be a good idea too.

I have a cup of passion flower tea once in a while. Gets me kind of stoned and relaxed, although not with the numbness I get from smoking grass.

Mulungu bark is supposed to be like Valium and better than kava. You can get a pound of it for around $20. It is gaining popularity. I love passionflower tea also. Never had Dagga or Lotus as I heard they are weak. Kratom's strong enough. But after a while you get to know what ya like.

I think kratom mixes well with almost anything. My favorite combos.

Kratom + Valerian root = Out like a light and sleep like a baby.
Kratom + Calea = very sweet waking dreams
Kratom + Yerba Mate = This is the equivalent of an organic speedball and my all time favorite. You get the pumped up energy of the mate with the soothing opium like effects of the tom. This is great to brew up for a group of people if you want some scintilating conversation. Better'n alcohol.

Nice.. I just found some yellow passion fruit growing wild here where I live. You use the flowers to make tea, or the leaves?

Hey, Motaman use leaves(sedative) but also you could have some of flowers but they are an aphrodisiac. I never tried yellow passionflower probably has the same effect. Just don't use it fresh as it contains a cyanogenic glycoside called gynocardin.

Moon Ticket, I myself have built up a tolerance to the kratom so I use 20 grams dried leaf in 6 cups of water run through the coffee maker. Then I use my wife's fancy french press tea thingy to brew a strong batch of mate. I also have a good resistance to caffeine so I use like four times the rcommended amount stated on the package. I've found blue agave nectar at the local health food store and I find this to be a better sweetener than honey when mixed with either tom or yerba. gO! tRY IT NOW!

As an aside, I was riding my bike home from work yesterday and decided to take a different route than my usual aand came across a huge passion flower bush growing out onto the sidewalk. I started picking a few for my wifey when the owner of the house came out. I thought he was gonna be pissed because I was standing there with a half dozen of these large alien looking flowers in my hand but he just said "Go on, you can have 'em all. They're goin to be dead in a week or two anyway".

I've never felt any effect from passion flower but they sure are cool looking.

I like Feverfew or Chamomile as sedative teas (fresh feverfew is wonderful, but be warned a decent dose of feverfew will knock the beginner out after 30 minutes).

Some of these herbs taste better when they are made with hot milk (and honey) instead of water, and hot or heated milk itself adds sedative effects by supplying tryptophan.

Its always best to assume a relaxing attitude when drinking these concoctions. There are no "spicerack quaaludes", they all to a degree are subtle.

I agree that catnip, damiana, dagga and other provide a very slight effect but the effects of kratom are cumulative. I could drink catnip tea all damn day and not get any more of a buzz than with
just
one glass. Kratom will get you more high the more you drink. 20-30 grams feels like prescription strength pain killers. That's me anyway, someone else would likely get the same effects from much
less.

Kava is really big out here in Hawaii. Lots of people take it to relax before a long plane ride
