hi! man, once i tried to use passiflora as maoi. i used about a foot of thick vine and leaves... boiled and concentrated to one cup.. it just tasted too bad, way worse than harmala tea... no way to drink it.
i don't think smoking pure leaf will be of any use... i gave up since there are better maois around...

Passiflora have 2 purposes if you ask me...

One, is for beautiful ornamental flowers.

The other, is for delicious fruit.

Trying to use them as an MAOI is kinda silly... way too low in alkaloids.

I read a journal article which described statistically significant (for what that's worth  ) anti-anxiety effects observed in rats treated with a flavanoid from passionflower and subjected to the typical anxiety tests.
So the MAOI effects ARE most likely meaningless on their own, but we shouldn't forget the example of St Johns Wort where the MAOI effects are inneffectual on their own but in conjuntion with the variety of other pharmacological effects of other components the whole herb has a significant effect in a sum of parts kind of way.
Here's the abstract etc..

P. Zanoli et al. r Fitoterapia 71 2000 S117]S123

Abstract

The behavioral effects of acute administration of two flavonoids, apigenin and chrysin, contained in Matricaria chamomilla and in Passiflora incarnata, respectively, were studied in rats. The data demonstrate that in our experimental conditions, the two flavonoids were equally able to reduce locomotor activity when injected in rats at a minimal effective dose of 25 mg r kg. However, while chrysin exhibited a clear anxiolytic effect when injected at the dose of 1 mg r kg, apigenin failed to exert this activity. The sedative effect of these flavonoids cannot be ascribed to an interaction with GABA]benzodiazepine receptors, since it was not counteracted by the benzodiazepine antagonist Flumazenil. To the contrary, the anxiolytic effect of chrysin, which was blocked by the injection of Flumazenil, could be linked to an activation of the GABA (A) receptor unit.

Thanks for all the replies this time!

Well I smoked the shit. I mixed up some dry leaves with chopped green ones (for extra smoke). I smoked llike three bowls out of my bong. After the first bowl I stopped to see if I could feel anything...Nothing....Mix up some more leaves, pack another bowl. Light the shit up, and rip "er through. I pause to see if I can feel anything...Nothing..."wait"
Ok, something. I felt like I had just smoked a bowl of cannabis. Ahhhh...not bad...so I smoke another bowl for good luck.

Basically I felt like I had just smoked a couple of bowls of cannabis. The stone felt slightly "lighter" than cannabis. However, I got more of the forehead tension.

I don't know if what I felt was from any active principles in the passiflora. Maybe I would feel the same if I smoked some weeds growing in my backyard! Anyways, I'll just stick with my familiar buds.

What juice? Do you mean from the fruit? In what way is it active?

I'm talkin' about the juice from passiflora edulis (also called "maracuja").
try and you'll tell me how it is active!
I never readed anything about it in the literature...but I can assure you that it works very very well!
