What herbs can be taken for gas pains/cramps?
    #6061854 -

Okay so I've just about always had some problems with my stomach but over the last couple weeks I've been getting an abnormal amount of stomach cramps/gas pains. I'm afraid that it may be related to my consumption of San Pedro two Fridays ago.

Typically I can't go a real long time without eating, otherwise I'll start to get pains in my stomach. So I'm a little jealous when I read about people fasting on here. I wish I could do that shit. Over the last 2 weeks though there have been times when I'd even have cramps right after eating. That's when I know something ain't right.

I'll be feeling like I need to burp really badly or like I'm going to burp but then I don't. Either that or I'll need to force it up and then all I'll get out is this little bitch burp. The stomach pains aren't anything excruciating but they are becoming very bothersome and I'd like to do something about it.

I tried taking some Gas-x today. They have it in dissolving strips now rather than pills, which I didn't know previously. So I tried the strips but for some reason Gas-x just doesn't seem to agree with me. Most of the time it seems to make my stomach worse for a while and then it's no better after that. I'm wondering if anyone knows of anything herbal I could take that would help. I have some sweet flag and I know that can be beneficial with digestive/GI issues. Would that maybe help? If so, does anyone know how much I should take?

Would sweet flag help my screwed up gut? [Re: ZippoZ]
    #6062035 -

Well I sure hope that it's not an ulcer. That would friggin' suck. I haven't totally ruled that out though. And I don't think it has anything to do with acid. I've had hearburn/acid reflux before and it's definitely not that. It just feels like gas that won't go away.

I'm not lactose intolerant though so I'm okay drinking milk. Orange juice or other acidic drinks don't typically bother me either.

Does anyone know about sweet flag, whether that might help or not?

Okay, how about the purging process from ayahuasca? Not that I've tried it yet but that's supposed to clean out the digestive system.

Any takers?

Fennel tea is quite good for gas problems. If you try to eat more fresh foods rather than processed, this will help a great deal. Avoid breads, beans and cabbage. Avoid accessvie sexual activity. Taking ayahuasca for gas problems is probably the most idiotic thing i have heard all week.

Ginger and Peppermint are both excellent for this purpose.. alone as well as combined together. Catnip as well.

You say you are getting cramps shortly after eating... well what are you eating?
Make sure you are drinking plenty of water as well.

Okay, well a simple "I wouldn't advise that" would've done just fine I think.  J/K   But yeah, now that you mention it, I guess that wasn't one of my best ideas ever.  I've been eager to try ayahuasca anyway though since my first attempt failed (puking, diarrhea, but no visions).  I should probably get this fixed first though and then consider that for a few weeks down the road.

So I tried taking a few capsules of sweet flag a little while ago since I didn't already have anything that's been mentioned.  I guess I'll see how that works and if it doesn't help I'll try the fennel tea or ginger.  I considered picking up beano instead of gas-x but I was reading the label and it seemed like it was more for taking with a particular meal involving problem foods.  I wasn't sure if it would help much for something that's been going on for a couple weeks.  I guess it couldn't have helped any less than the gas-x though.

As far as weed goes, I've got mixed feelings with that.  I know it has the effect of settling your stomach with most people.  Still, I've been smoking every night for the last two weeks so it obviously hasn't had any long term benefits on my stomach.  I know when I used to smoke cigs I'd get stomach pains all the time by the end of the day.  My dad said I must have been swallowing air while I was smoking.  The shit sounded ridiculous to me until I quit and the stomach pains went away.

Ginger is good for the digestive system in general, cleansing as well as stimulating gastric juices. The gas and cramps relief is a natural byproduct. Peppermint is the same deal.. soothes.

I just came from reading more on Valerian Root and something I learned it helps with is cramps. Probably because it helps to relax the nervous system and ease tension.  Often, digestive problems are brought on by stress.

I havn't tried it myself for any of your symptoms, but I just read through 9 web sites that all supported it for cramping.

If you have any, give it a shot.

Also sounds like you might have IBS. If thats the case, eat lots of fiber ( wolf down a bunch of dry mini wheats cereal) and drink tons of water, and cut out the stress and relax.

Hope you're feeling better soon.

:peace:

Carcinogens in your system are enough to off-set things slightly.

I doubt you were swallowing air when smoking cigs. You were probably experiencing a result of a combination of a) the stimulant effect of the active ingredient, and b) overloading your system with carcinogens that have to be filtered out somehow.

Now... you say your problems have been going on for two weeks... and then when weed is mentioned, you discount it because "you've been smoking it every night for two weeks"...

Put two and two together... in addition to a sedative effect, weed can have a stimulant effect on the system--much like cigarettes. And, also much like cigarettes, you're still inhaling a lot of carcinogens in the process.

Just some observations.

P.S. I suffer from the exact same symptoms, and I smoke way too much weed. I'm starting to draw a connection between the two in my own experiences. I believe that it has something to do with the interaction THC has with certain receptors relating to the stomach. To put it simply, it's like having munchies all the time... your stomach always wants to have something in it.

My 2 cents... take of it as you will.

Funny you should mention that. I actually do have some valerian at home here. The stomach issues may be partially related to stress too. I've been trying to blame it entirely on my ingestion of San Pedro but I've also had a lot of bad things happen this summer too. My apartment and business that I work for were both flooded a few months ago and I've also lost 2 grandparents this summer. My dad's mom just passed away yesterday. I'm trying to look at things in the most positive light possible though. I figure somebody up there must believe that it's easiest for us to deal with all this stuff at once. Everything happens for a reason, right?

I do relate to what you're saying too about the carcinogens, Jacques. I'm gonna smoke the last little bit that I've got today and then go for at least a week or two without. Hopefully that'll help. I know sometimes I'll be feeling fine and then I start to get cramps as I'm puffin'. So I'll stop smoking for a while, take something to relax with and hopefully I'll start feeling better soon. One of these days I should probably take up a little meditation here and there too.

Thanks for the help and your concern guys.
