Herbs to fight anxiety
    #3699030 - 01/29/05 06:08 PM (12 years, 5 months ago)

http://dictionary.reference.com/search?q=anxiety

There are several herbs that can calm the grips of anxiety. To be effective, you should try drinking 3 cups of medicinal-dosage tea each day. Use caution though and read enough about this subject beforehand. Herbs are not a subsitute for issues that need to be resolved without them.

Herbs that combat anxiety in general:
#1 Valerian Root Powder
#2 Skullcap
#3 Lady's Slipper
#4 Lime Blossom
#5 Mistletoe

Extra: California Poppy

If you are experiencing stomach issues as a result of nervous tension or anxiety definitely consider mixing one of the above herbs with meadowsweet to calm your tum-tum.

3 Notes That Might Help You Avoid Anxiety

Don't focus on the pain as Trent Reznor would. Look at the sky if nothing else seems tranquil. Be positive if its even remotely possible.

Be as upbeat as you possibly can in all places, in all siutations, at all times. This can only aid your mind and body.

Find something that interests you naturally and dig into it as often as its appropriate.

You probably never met our friend Geneviev, but she developed terrible anxiety attacks and pharmaceuticals didn't help. She began to use both capsules and an oral spray of this amino acid which helped immediately. I expect to try this soon because I don't like the effects of the Xanax I recently obtained.

Let us know how that works out for you. There are numerous shroomerites (including myself) that having issues with anxiety.

I've never had any first hand experience with the polynesian herb, Kava Kava, but from the majority of information I have absorbed, it's very effective for relieving axiety... but of course a lot of anxiety is caused by a fear, guilt, or problem that needs to be resolved while other anxiety is biological...

right?

I think it is safe to conclude that anxiety is a spiritual matter alone and not a genetic or biological matter.

Herbs hold spiritual essences in them.

Heal the spirit and you heal the body.

My anxiety was actually physiological in nature. It was a rapid and arrhythmic heartbeat caused by my congenital mitral valve prolapse finally becoming symptomatic. It was unavoidable that the physical sensations would have corresponding emotional responses. Since taking the beta-blocker medication Toprol-XL, the symptoms have all-but-disappeared. The diastolic (lower number) blood pressure number still needs to come down to 70-80, but I am feeling much better. Some of the physical sensations also effected me in the GI tract, so I had a CAT-Scan last summer - negative. It was the beginning of this mitral valve symptomology.

Thanks for your interest!

"Herbs hold spiritual essences in them."

So now you're an animist.

Anxiety is a complex psychophysical reaction - oftentimes with spiritual underpinnings. It is one of the great problems addressed by Existentialist thinkers like Existential Psychotherapist Irv Yalom. Unfortunately, Yalom, like a lot Existentialists is an atheist. I prefer an existentialist like Soren Kierkegaard - the first Christian Existentialist. A former theology professor of mine -Thomas C. Oden, wrote 'The Structure of Awareness' and devoted much of the book to anxiety. You would appreciate, no doubt, the chapter entitled 'The Ontological Impossibility of Anxiety Before God.'

Nevertheless, despite your assertion, I beg to differ. ALL anxiety is definately not spiritual in its etiology. I have experienced both the spiritual and physical varieties - they both suck, but one is more easily remedied by a 'pill,' whilst the other requires a life-journey towards ultimate meaning - not so easy.

Ashwaganda (Winter Cherry) and St. Johns Wort are also effective.
