Hpoo done right

Well this is my first grow and I decided to skip BRF cakes and go right on to grain spawning onto hpoo and casing with a real casing mix. My main concern is contamination and I want to make sure I do the pasteurization part right. I ordered pre-pasteurized hpoo from tennstud first of all. It has been sitting in a dark place unopened for a few weeks now. Is this too long or should I pasteurize again? If so, I plan to put it in cloth and simmer it at 170 degrees for an hour.

After that, I am worried about contamination during spawning and incubating. I don't have a glove box so I will be doing it in open air. I have a quart jar of rye spawn fully colonized and I plan to lysol my area and wipe everything down with alcohol. I'll take a container, put the Hpoo in it, then add the spawn, then mix. I'll cover the container tightly with foil and leave it for a week. After that I will case.

Does this plan seem ok or does anyone think that open air spawning is too risky?

I can't help out on the open air question (although interested, I plan to do this soon), but I can tell you tennstud recommends not having the prepast. poo sit around longer than 7 days to be on the safe side.

I wouldn't worry about it.  I've used The tennstud prepast before when it had been sitting for atleast 4 months. No problems with contams.
  As for the open air method. I have yet to have a casing contaminated and that the way I do it. I take a big rubber maid, clean the inside with bleach water , alcohol,  or lysol and then crumble my wbs into it and then add the tennstud. Mix it all together with either washed hands or rubber gloves. Pack it in the tray and you are goood to go. Everything you are planning to do sounds good to me :smile: :thumbup:
