I am interested in using hpoo to spice up some casings. Does an hpoo/straw mix like the one from tennstud does it really smell bad or what? I sleep in the same room my FC is in so it is a big concern.

really? cool. I figure I am gonna take some colonized cakes and crumble to mix with a bunch of hpoo/straw then case all that badboy and see how much of a difference that will make that just using 50/50 ebay casing mix.
probably leaps and bounds.

It doesn't smell bad.. I second that one I would leave out the straw, especially if you are new to spawning.. Straw is more susceptible to contams... Just a thought.. You don't need to leach poo if you gather the dried up whole butt nugs that have been sitting around for a month or two and have been weathered by mother nature. Just break up and pasteurize for 45-60 minutes at 170 F. you'll be fine.. You'll love the difference.. Look up all the different poo teks and run with one.

As far as I know.. It does little to nothing for potency.. This is usually gained by type of grains used for spawn.. From all I know.. Rye berries are the best substrate for potency. However... Yield is night and day. For example.. I started with cakes and casing.. Here are my results.
B+ and Golden Teacher Cakes; Biggest shroom was 2.8 dry and was about 3" tall with a 1" cap. Largest yield 4grams dry...
Casing Cake, 50/50 mix: Biggest shroom was 5" tall with a 2" cap 2.5 dry Largest Yield: 16 grams dry
Spawning to Poo, Incubating to full colonization, then casing with 50/50 mix. Biggest shroom.... 12" tall with a 3" cap 4 grams dry. Largest Yield... 2 ounces dry.
After reading that.. You tell me lol

Yield is always much more when using hpoo as a substrate. Bigger fruits, bigger flushes, multiple flushes, but, I have found that with almost all of my grows, potencey to mass ratio increases in potencey as mass decreases. not by much, but I always eat an extra gram of larger fruits just because this has always been the case.
I highly reccomend hpoo for a bulk grow. It's super easy, and the symbiotic relationship between beneficial microbes and mycellium makes it a strong healthy grow.
Be sure your hpoo is leached. It should smell nothing like poo or urine, and more like sweet smelling earthy black forest dirt (when moist) and should be a light grey/brown color when dry.

I've read that a lot of people do a 4:1 ratio substrate to spawn. With that in mind if you use 6 half pints of spawn you would want 12 pints of Substrate.
of course some people go with 10:1 substrate to Spawn but since you've got brf and not grain spawn i'd stick with the 4:1 or maybe even 3:1
In which case yeah 9-12 pint range or 10-15 pint range would seem to be a good ranges to work within.
Just fill up a pint jar with hpoo and feel it out. Or just use a pint jar to measure out your substrate amount after you've mixed a bunch up.
Remember the more spawn to substrate you use the quicker the hpoo will colonize. Just my too.
