Sore wrists
    #6039312 -

(sort of a double post - more applicable here.)

Anyways, 2 weeks ago i started working fulltime at a sawmill/pallet making facility and its very hard physical work. Very rewarding. However, my wrists are having trouble keeping up, they are very sore and perhaps a tad swollen. The pain extends up abour 4" into my forearm when i rotate them. There is no loss of motion, but when lifting heavy loads (2 10' stacked 2x6's), i cringe in pain - but its got to be done, part of the job.. which id like to keep.

Hopefully this doesnt cripple me.

I dont know if i can grin and bear it, or if i should find a new job?

I know my wrists are weak from past biking accidents, but they should regain their strength shouldnt they? Is it likely im causing more damage by pushing them now?

i would say see a doctor, if you have past damage im going to bet that whatever you damaged in the past is getting stressed now, and i hate to say it but as we all get older some of these things dont get better, or dont heal right ane we never fully recover.

that being said, i would see a doctor and if its that bad, go for the disability while you find a new job

I dunno but maybe try drinking creatine while you work, creatine is good for lifting and recoop abilities, if your muscles are getting worked out and theres no padding support the tendons then your going to strain those tendons, I think you have to give you limbs ample support, try to facilitate a stockier build, and creatine helps in this aspect by adding water to your muscle cells.

Be careful. Sure, your wrists are getting stronger, but they may also be getting permanently damaged. You have to differentiate between the 2 kinds of pain. One is natural soreness and the other means something is wrong.

I suggest finding a different technique to do the heavy lifting. Try putting your back into it so that you can pivot and make simple movements to move the boards. That will include your forearms in the work and your wrists won't be torqued so much.

No job is worth your health. I tweaked my wrist and forearm pretty bad when I was a senior in high school working at a cabinet shop lifting heavy loads of lumber and such. That was 5 years ago and there's still a bit of damage. Also, my diet and lifestyle were horrible at the time so I had no buffer or support for my tissues. Just be thoughtful of your health above all else. Be aware of every action on the job and how it may be creating a bad pattern of motion and find alternatives if possible. If it's not, there's a million jobs out there, you only have two wrists.
