sore weak wrists... (help me strengthen them.)

Im sure i've posted about this before, but need help once again
When i was a young reckless mountain biker, i injured my wrists many times, but one crash inparticular where i may or may not have broken my scaffoid in my left hand.. left me permanently injured.
Now, years later... My wrists are pathetically weak, and its almost debilitating in some ways. I most recently tweaked one of them when i was helping my parents move, and ever since.. they've been hurting.
I've been noticing actual pain, ever since i started doing push up's again (last week.) and last nite the pain actually kept me awake.
I suspect i have weak tendons. What can i do about this? (id like to strengthen my wrists in the next 3 months, before i leave for south america.)

I'm no physical therapist but I'd reccomend squeezing one of those squishy stress balls and lifting dumbells in various hand positions without bending your elbow or shoulder, only wrist movements. As heavy as is comfortable for you, low # of reps.
This will strengthen your forearms, so your wrist will be held together more strongly.

I don't know much about how the wrists are 'put together' so to speak, so take what I say with a grain of salt.
My wrists have become a lot stronger since I started doing internal force push-ups. Basically, you balance on your fists instead of on the palms of your hands, keeping your back relatively straight; inhale through your nose, do three push-ups, exhale through your mouth. Do four or five sets of these at a time, then rest, stretch your back and massage your wrists, and do some more. You can immediately feel the workout your wrists are getting, and it makes a noticeable difference after a couple days. Be sure you're well balanced on your fists and don't push yourself too hard as you could probably hurt your wrists even more.
Anyway, that's just a possibility. If you're really serious about it, you might look into...um...I think it's aikido but I'm not 100% sure...I know there is a martial art which is dedicated in large part to making the wrists strong, quick, and flexible.

I would go see a doctor if they are very painful. Might be something wrong there, and extra stress on your wrists might make it worse.
But, to strengethen then, I highly suggest taking up rock climbing depending on where you live. Search and see if theres an indoor gym around. That, stress balls, or wrist curls on a bench press will help.

I was doing wrist curls at the gym, but they seem to work my forearm more than my wrist.
ill grab a stress ball.
Also, tried doing pushups on my knuckles today and it helped alot.

There are no muscles in your wrist, only connective tissue(tendons). When you do resistance excercizes that articulate the wrist you will "feel the burn" in your forearm, not your wrist. The muscles in your hand are not very strong. To demonstrate this, try to grab something using only your thumb and pinky. Then try to grab something using a curling motion of your 4 fingers and opposing that with your thumb. Easier, no? Some careful observations can give you insights to how your body works better than reading about it can.
I spent a couple weeks perusing a photographic anatomy atlas, and now I'm almost always... very aware of my musculo-skeletal structure (It's difficult to describe) and hurt myself at work far less often than when I was stoned 24/7 and didn't pay attention to what my body was doing.

I had the same problem until recently. Here's what I've done to improve my wrist strength:
Daily stretching - Pull them back, and pull them in, 20 seconds at a time, a few times a day, whenever you feel like it; Another stretch is to bring your hands together in front of your chest, as in prayer position, and slowly bring your hands down, while keeping your palms touching (so like a prayer position, but with your hands by your belly button). Hold for about a minute.
Planche progression - http://www.dragondoor.com/articler/mode3/229/ These static holds will definitely improve wrist/forearm strength
As somebody else mentioned, handstand holds against the wall (stretch your wrists first)
When doing push-ups, your elbows should go straight back, not splay outwards. Bad form will put tension on your wrist and elbows in directions it shouldn't be going.
Good luck
