Muscle Soreness
    #4159821 - 05/11/05 12:29 AM (11 years, 10 months ago)

I workout chest and triceps and abs Monday and Wednesday
I workout Biceps, Forearms, Shoulders, and abs Tuesday and Thursday

Friday through Sunday I do not work out.

I hit the gym pretty hard when i go. Every monday night i start to feel the soreness coming on and i feel sore through thursday usually. My maximum chest and tricep rest period is only 5 days...yet i get sore at the beginning of every week's workout cycle. i also get sore on after monday from riding my bike to school (at least that's what i think its from because i don't excercise my legs at the gym due to knee problems).

I don't stretch, i find stretching very difficult and painful to stretch (could this be my problem?)...i'm making a thread about increasing flexibility later...so hold on for that.

i'm wondering if there is anything i can do prior to or after workouts, dietary or physically that would decrease my muscle soreness after the beginning of each week's workout...or do i need to incorporate a light excercise day on saturday to make sure my muscles aren't sitting around for a few days unexercised?

what are your thoughts?

Stretch, definately.

Sounds like my workout

I took a break from working out over the winter a bit. Just got back into it and I got my hands on one of these little electrode things you slap on your muscles after a workout, or the day after when you're sore. I'll try to find you a link to some products.

It helps recovery by stimulating the muscles... and also feels like a massage... just keep it away from your brain and heart.

Stretch yourself to the threshhold of pain and hold it for a good 30 seconds.

Hi TODAY. Yes I know of a supplement that can help you immensely. It is called MethylSulphonylMethane or MSM for short. Athletes use it all over the world . Health food stores. Supplement department. Do a search on it. Very useful element. Good Luck. Oh yeah, Yoga is GOOD for you too. PEACE

BloodNOil is correct.

Congrats for continuing to workout intensely enough to produce soreness. Lots of poor souls get over their initial soreness in the first month of weight training and settle into their comfort zone thinking they have passed a rite of passage and they are experienced lifters now.

Stretch for sure man! Just dont do it to the point where it hurts.
You'll see that the soreness will be a lot better.
Perhaps take some creatine too, as there is no side effect known at the moment and it helps the muscles recover faster.

Not sure about what Im saying tho :smirk:

thanks for that bit of info keeperofkeys, but i'm really the type to shun any kind of supplement. the only thing i supplement workouts with are protein powder/milk and a nice lean meat dish. i really think stretching pre/post workout is the best way to go.

i drink alot of water...on average pretty close to the recommended daily amount. the problem is, when i stretch i can't even get to the pain threshold where i feel a stretch but it doesn't hurt. every time i try to stretch (my hamstrings for example are so tight that i can't make a 90 degree angle from my chest to my thighs w/ strait legs out sitting down w/o supporting myself w/ my hands. i'm terribly inflexible and am really wanting to get into a routine that doesn't hurt and that actually increases flexibility.

Then I would recommend Yoga. It has done wonders in my life. Just breathe..........................................................

well, i'm so stiff that i don't know where to start. rudimentary stretches are almost impossible for me to do because they hurt so much.
