Puffball ID please....

I found them today near dundee mi. in the grass sandy soil, they are about 2in. across. thank you for any help...

hmmm. what kind of skin does it have?

if it has fine spines, then most likely Vascellum pratense, edible

if it has more than one layer of skin, then most likely Bovista plumbea, also edible.


in any case, i think its edible.

i would still wait for another person to confirm this.

Hmmmm, I'm only knowledgeable on European fungi and you guys get different sorts in the States...

Whats the texture like? Soft like a marshmallow or very firm???

there are 2 layers flesh is firm quite heavy for size. have to go will be back later tonight...TY...

its edible,but only when the flesh is white and firm. if it starts turning yellow, then dont eat it.


its also good if you fry it up!

In that case it might be Scleroderma which is toxic...

Should have a marshmallow texture for a puffball but I only know my European stuff.. :shrug:
