For Lc whats the best to use Karo or honey.

the honey i use all the time but the results are a lil not what i expeact should i switch to Karo?

Lots of people use honey successfully. I'm not one of them. After about 20 attempts at honey-water LC, I've only had one that made it. Not saying they were all contamd or didn't grow, but I always have huge sedimentary problems with honey no matter how many times I strain and it's hard to tell the difference between contam and sediment (to me, anyway). The Karo has only failed me once due to contamination, and that was probably my own stupidity or hastiness. I made the switch a few months ago and the bottom level of my fridge is now full of various strains of master culture. If you're having that much trouble or not getting the desired results with honey, might as well try something different, otherwise you're just wasting your spores. Give it a try and keep us posted.

Honey worked fine for me. I was a complete nub when I did my LC and my honey solution gave way to some thick mycillium.

sedimentary problems? How are you making your LC, because there should be nothing inside your jar except a biopsy from a mushrooms stem, honey, and water. You need to look over Creamcorns method of making LC it should help you out a lot.

Also you shouldnt add more than 4% Honey your LC, 4g Honey to 100g water or 100ml water. I've been making honey water LC for a few months now I've never had a contaminated sample or one that didnt grow. Another key point is that you dont PC your LC for more than 15 minutes, if you do your honey will carmalize which renders it useless.

Some people start LC's with a multispore inoculation. The sediments come from the honey.

I would suggest PCing 25 minutes. 15 might do the trick but I'd rather not take the risk. I've PCed honey LC's for 40 minutes before, yes, they do caramelize a bit but are far from useless.

Blue Helix says super clear LCs are over-rated anyways.

I've never had any luck with any of them. I always use 1 teaspoon of each – dextrose and light malt extract in a half cup of water.

i like karo light over honey because your lc comes out clear and its easier to detect contams.
