Wow! Georgia's lovely weather...
    #599278 -

The weather here in GA is getting close to perfect now! I feel a really good season coming on within the next month or so. Are there many good fields in southern metro ATL, or a little further down?
Valdosta is an awesome place to hunt and chill, but I'm kind of growing tired of wearing out my allready worn-out car. It's a 3-4 hour drive from here!

Oh, and one other thing! Would a sporeprint from a personally picked, wild growing shroom produce stronger fruit than an ordered sporeprint?

Peace.

It's a common rule that the further south you go, the liklier the chance of a good find. I've only successfully found some cubes twice, and that was about an hour from FL, though I'm sure they DO grow closer. I've heard "Anywhere south of I-20," but good luck!
The Lizard King seems to be the resident expert on GA shroomin, so ask him if you have any detailed question.

Peace.

Midtown here. I been hunting a couple of times, but to no avail. I hope us GA folks will let each other know the general areas that are productive... Good luck in the months ahead!
BTW, any of lizard kings posts are worth reading. finding a p. weilli would be exciting.

Alright, check it out. I haven't quite figured out the cubes here in GA, I have found them just outside of my neighborhood which is about 20mins from downtown ATL, but this is not so common. Now when I first started hunting, everyone here on the shroomery(this was 4 years ago) told me to head out I-20 and I would find cubies, one guy told me he had been picking way more than he needed out towards the horse park(near conyers) That year the fields were full of cubes everywhere, I can testify to this, I saw it with my own eyes (this was around august of 98) Every year since then I've had to drive three hours out I-20 to find them. Then last year they start showing up around the horse park again. From what I've gathered, cubes used to be plentiful in mid alabama, georgia, south carolina, and over the past few years with the drought, they have almost disappeared. Now with the rainfall amount starting to come back to normal, so are the cubensis fruitings. I expect them to start making a regular appearance again this year out towards the horse park.

So, as far as sharing locations, I say head out I-20, anything south of augusta will have cubies, I promise. The horse park had a few fruitings last year, and I expect them to fruit heavy out that way this year, but its no gurantee. Bottom line is you just have to get out there and look, you just never know until you do.

As for weilii, they are all over the piedmont region of GA and even rumored as far south as macon. To learn about their habitat, do a search on the term "weilii" in this forum and you will find more info than you need. I only have a few picking locations for this species, I would never give them out  You'll just have to find you own patch, I did  Also, don't forget about atlantis and the new species I found last year, there are more out there to be discovered, just keep your eyes peeled and pick everything you find, you never know what you'll find next. Thats what makes this hobby so great.

LK,

We should form a hunting club or something. Rent a lodge somewere, through up some rugs and a few cool posters. I saw on a simpsons episode somewere that hunting clubs can "serve drinks of a refreshing nature" Anyway, if anyone wants to teach a newbie hunter, PM me.

You shouldn't reply to 3 year old threads. There's a good place to start.
