New to shrooming in South Florida * 1
    #857637 - 09/01/02 07:49 PM (19 years, 22 days ago)

First off I just want to say this site is great. I live in South Florida (Pembroke Pines) and have been shroom hunting for the past month or so to no avail. It really stinks as i have never tried these little shrooms before. Im familiar with other halucinogens just not shrooms.

What is common in the South Florida area this time of year? Also it would be a great help if any experienced Florida shroomers could email or PM me privatly to give me a few tips it would be VERY helpful.

Hey there arent too many cow fields in Miami, but in your stretch of the woods there are. The type that grow here all year round are cubensis(goldcaps) and copelandia cyanescens(blue meanies). To tell you the truth I have found way more shit in Gainesville with less effort than I have here in South Florida. We have a higher population base, so that means more pickers and we have angrier farmers more inclined to use fungicide. There are plenty of fields near PP to search so PM me and we'll get something going.

gainsville is great for shroom hunting!  i was driving there a month ago on route 41 and it was just miles upon miles of cow fields.

hey dude,

welcome to Florida.

The easiest finds in south florida are:

Psilocybe Cubensis
Copelandia cyanescens
Panaeolus castaneifolius
Panaeolus subbalteatus.
Gymnopilus luteofolius
Gymnopilus spectabilis.

Keep shroomin,
GGreatOne234

TThere are of course more than several other species that have been found in FLA,
Some are more or less common than others.
Also a few that have not been found i would hope.

Keep shroomin,
GG

welcome to the treasure coast strain! i used to live up by lauderdale and west palm, and i could only ever find two digits worth of shrooms in the summer months. of course in florida summer is like 5 months long. you're catching the tail end of it. i also found that because of the heat it's prettty useless to go out if it hasn't rained lately. what i always did was wait till it rained for at tleast two days in a row, then wait for three nonrainy days, then go hunting. some advice: don't go directly after a nice rain because nothing's worse than stomping through squishy muddy cow fields trying to find squishy muddy cow shit.

I am new to the "hunt" also. I live in the manatee, sarasota county area.
There are huge fields east of 75 , mainly cow fields. I just wish i knew what i was looking for. i have been reading books and asking questions. If someone is a veteran hunetr and in this area, email me.

hey llib,

well manatee/sarasota is great for the mushrooms i have listed above.

east of 75 is where most of the Shrooms live.

You'll find great fields at any exit east of the interstate.
-WWith the exception of the old Exit 40 at University Parkway, Lakewood Ranch..there are security guards that patrol the area and the majority the pastures have already been knocked down to make room for construction.

The next exit up.. Exit 41 is loaded too, but stay clear of the Lakewood Ranch High School, they have security and police guards that don't like Shroomers near their school.

Bee careful,

Most peoples first find in your area are:

Copelandia cyanescens,

Secondary Shroom find would be Psilocybe Cubensis.

Like i say, most people stumble upon the Copelandian mushroom first and are unsure of what they are because of little knowledge about what they are looking for.
-Psilocybe Cubensis is what you should be looking for.

Both are potent.

Keep shroomin,
GG

No i haven't.

The entire state of Florida is one big location for finding Shrooms.

The areas that i speak of are a generalization.

Sooo.... I've relocated from mushroomless Northeastern Pennsylvania to Orlando, FL. Been here for exactly a week.

The other day I told the wifey, "Woman, we goin' a huntin'!"

So we drove towards Sarasota... eventually I got sick of driving, and decided I'll go to the Little Manatee River state park.

Well of course the state park I pick is known as "FLORIDA'S DESERT."

F.

So I plan on attending hunting class in Sarasota and Gainesville sometime next week.

Wisha mea lucka.

Peas.

hehehe,

Yeah the sunshine down here can really dry things out real quick eh?

-You picked the wrong place to pick..little manatee sux for mushrooms. Myakka state park has some nice trails usually loaded with lots of mushrooms. Though the weather channel has been flashing flood warnings for myakka for weeks now, and the north entrance is probably not even accessable right now. Tons of gators live at that park too.

Keep on shroomin,
GG

-Oh and it is not very common to be finding psychoactive mushrooms at state parks, unless there are cows and horses roaming around.
Psilocybe mammillata has been reported from Highlands Hammock state park in highland county florida. That mushroom I however have never yet spotted. We had taken a trip to Highlands Hammock state park once to get the skinny on what type of trails they have up there...it is a great park, but I have many trails here in sarasota/manatee, basically identical to what they have up there, and highlands is only 60 miles to the east.
Other than that, it is a tough bet you will find many Psilocybes at the parks, with the exception of a couple Gymnopilus species.

I'll never give up though. I want those mammi's so damn bad lol. Or who knows what else i could find.

Keep shroomin,
GG

That fungicide story is a bullshit myth. Fungicide is expensive. Cattle ranchers wouldn't waste money on fungicide to keep shroomers out of their fields, it would be an unnecessary expense in a business with already high overhead costs. Shotgun shells are way cheaper than buying kilos of fungicide to put in cow feed and being shot at is a way better deterrent.

Also, quit replying to old ass threads.

Um, ill do whatever the hell I like, im a grown man. And I don't know where you are from but the fungicide is NOT a myth, I have talked to a few farmers who use it. And when you get hippies CONSTANTLY running around in your field and maybe you don't want to shoot them or AT them they use it.
