Using Plants to help maintain a self-sufficent
    #599190 - 04/05/02 12:31 AM (21 years, 10 months ago)

Has anyone used plants in their terrariums to help make them more self-sufficent? The mushrooms create the neccessary CO2 for the plants and the it should be humid enough to keep the plant alive (or I could use a drip water system to keep the soil moist). I have had clones from my other household projects share the same terrarium as some cakes before, but I didn't notice any different results since, I didn't want to lose the clones, I opened the container on a daily basis to check them.
I don't think that contamination will be a big factor, if it is self-contained and the plant doesn't pollenate. Any feedback is welcome.

It won't work.

This is because plants absorb CO2 and release O2 during the day, but then absorb O2 and release CO2 at night. (Thats why you shouldn't sleep under a tree at night).

It might work if you put the plant in during the day and took it out at night.
