High humidity open-air environments instead of terrarium?
    #3976086 - 03/27/05 03:28 PM (13 years, 28 days ago)

Salutations!

I live in a coastal mediterranean city, pretty close to the shore itself. During the summer, the humidity gets ridiculously high. This is excessive for us mere humans (air-conditioning bills become unfriendly during peak summer), but seems perfect for shrooms. So the obvious question, for the PF Tek: would it be possible to forego the need to construct and maintain a post-birthing terrarium and simply place the cakes in the open, humid air? I should note that peak humidity is also associated with uncomfortably high temperatures; how much would this hamper the procedure in an already colonized pre-birth PF cake?

High temp = bad... High humidity = good so your most likely going to have to figure something else out.. but im new at this so ill let someone else tell you this.

"High temp = bad... High humidity = good so your most likely going to have to figure something else out.. "

Well, yes, but I think (hope?) that using a cambodian or ecuadorian strain would enable it - they can stand the heat, so I'll let them lodge in my kitchen. They do, after all, grow naturally in the hot'n'bothered countries of Cambodia and Ecuador, nay? (correct me if I'm being excessively optimistic) The crux of the question, though, is whether a terrarium is essential because it keeps humidity high, or rather because it helps prevent post-birthing cake contamination (in-home environments being much more prone to these type of molds than natural ones). It would be nice if it were only the natural, humid sky in which I would have to put my great gig.
