Casing Birth
    #597773 - 04/03/02 03:49 PM (22 years, 5 months ago)

I have seen pictures of amazing flushes here on the shroomery.. put up by Anno, Mycofile, and many others... I have a short question, but would like a detailed answer....

Question:  What should the casing layer on say 50/50 cased straw (3" substrate) look like upon birthing?
(when I say "look like" I mean in respect to mycelium penetration and such)

Any response would be welcome!!

i use a very thin layer of 50/50 on my straw. just enough to cover the staw evenly.

What works for me is this. I wait until the mycellia has completely coloinized the straw. then i wait until the growth starts to slow down or pins start to form. then i put a thin layer of casing and mist it well. this i think helps prevent too much over lay. After a flush has been picked i put another thin layer of 50/50 and mist well.

hope this helps ya , let me know if you have any more questions.

so, do you essentially "re-case" after each flush?
